  • Slow motion sounds like dropped frames, are you connecting it to a 4K TV?

I've been using my steam deck about daily, what software channels are you referring to?

I have never used steam's remote play so I am unable to diagnose or help with that issue.

  • It's very hard to tell. Most decades have inertia that carry on 3-4 years in. You didn't see people vaping or people with full beards drinking craft beer until 2013.

It's hard to tell what's seeping into the new decade from the last decade, what's here to stay, and what's new to come. Are NFTs the new thing? Or just a symptom of the boom in crypto the 20-teens.

I do predict AI will be here to stay, though.

  • I've always been able to read that my kernel is included in an update.

Are you updating throught he command line or some visual front?

And 1200 packages? I run arch (btw) and only get ~250 a week.

  • From what I've seen:

Many of the fans seem to be such different sizes, placements, etc. It seems like no one really knows how to cool the steam deck from the back at this time.

I have also never seen someone's default steam deck getting overheating issues. But I don't work for valve's warranty/RMA department.

Personally, I haven't had any issues playing GTAV on my steam deck directly in my lap. A friend of mine has the JSAUX plastic back plate, their thermal pad doesn't fit flush, and removing the thermal pad doesn't affect temperature more or less than the original.

I am of the opinion that no accessory is needed for 1-2 hours of play in terms of cooling, it will be fine for years to come. Battery, however, will be your main issue. I'd get an external battery, and some companies make cases that can hold the battery to the back.

Let me know if you need any help getting your steam deck set up! Or if you need any advice on some things you should do first with your SD.

  • I don't like other distros that include lots of programs out of the box. I might need an office program, a music player, etc. But I want to choose it all myself.

I like KDE, but I also like some gnome applications, and it's difficult to find a distro that only installs one or the other.

I find it easier to start from scratch: Give me a basic desktop environment, a terminal, and I know how to take it from there.

The rolling packages are a nice touch. As a linux gamer, any bit of free performance I can get from simply installing an update is appreciated.
