  • I think the argument they make is that quantum randomness doesn't have any way of influencing our choices, the scales are too different. I disagree, I think quantum randomness is free will, and there's some sort of quantum amplifier, for lack of a better word, that bridges the gap between particle interactions and consciousness. But since there is no way to prove or disprove such a thing, since it is by definition indistinguishable from chance, it's basically naval gazing...

    When I read that, I was finally able to reconcile my pacifist upbringing with the reality I was observing.

  • Server is "free" in that it can run on the computer you already have, with the Internet connection you already have. Domain registration is fairly cheap, I last paid $65 for 5 years. I haven't shopped around in a while so there could be cheaper options. SSL cert can be had for free though you will have to renew it every 3 months, but that can often be automated...

  • I guess I went to a well funded public school... In 1984-5 we had a whole bunch of apple ][s so we had an hour or so per week of programming in basic- I had a commodore 64 at home so I could do the classwork in the first 5-10 minutes, then spend the rest of the time playing with it to see what it could do...
