  • I watched someone make this mistake during a screen share, she hit execute and I screamed "wait! You forgot the where!" Fortunately, it was such a huge database that SQL spun for a moment I guess deciding how it was going to do it before actually doing it, she was able to cancel it and ran a couple checks to confirm it hadn't actually changed anything yet. I don't think anything computer related has ever gotten my adrenaline going like that before or since

  • I bought a new laptop that came with 11, I haven't had any super annoying issues... Actually the preinstalled Samsung apps are more annoying than anything OS related... But to be fair, when I was setting it up, I looked into how to do it without connecting to a Microsoft account - it's possible but takes a little work. I wonder if that is the difference...

  • Because a stalker might actually cause you physical harm, while Google/YouTube just wants money, and not necessarily your money. I have no love for the ad supported business model, I'm definitely not defending it, but you're not going to convince someone who doesn't value privacy to care about it.

  • I'm just speaking from experience - which of course is influenced by how much I am willing to pay for a solution, which is nothing. For the most part, people offering solutions for windows expect to be paid, while Linux gurus are more likely to do it for free

  • Landlords and groceries can just raise prices to bring the cost of living up

They already can, and do. If they do it too much, people leave that area. With a UBI, there's nothing that says you have to live in a big city, it would be easier to move to bfe, where it's always going to be cheaper. It's not ideal of course to uproot and leave, but it's possible, and it's that possibility that keeps prices somewhat under control.

  • It really is. I have a ton of movies even lower res than DVD, like 480x272 (because way back in 2008 I wanted to be able to play them on my PSP which couldn't handle anything bigger...) and they're perfectly watchable. But of course I grew up on broadcast TV and VHS, it's all uphill from there.
