  • I subscribe to mostly Lemmy.world instances,

you subscribe to communities on the lemmy.world instance. Ultimately, lemmy.world doesn't exist without the efforts of the developers behind Lemmy, so that's definitely more important imo.

  • Right now, the only method is to use a specific community for this, use sticky posts, or use an external tool.

  • After the City Fibre rollout, Virgin just doesn't make sense anymore.

  • I used kimovil. Being able to ensure you only get phones that support your data bands is really important imo

  • All of the above, but dating apps is likely the majority

  • Please don't

Someone will either have to clean it up for you anyway or it goes down the drain and contributes to your local drainage problems

  • Only technically true. The two don't work super well together, Mastodon is a better frontend if you're looking for a microbloggingn experience.

  • Change sorting to "Top 6hr". I browse by Hot sometimes but that's my primary sort atm

  • You'd be better off posting this on a Malaysian community, like !cafe@monyet.cc

  • They made a announcement here on Lemmy https://lemmy.world/post/3234363

The original was posted on discord. It was:

    Removal of Piracy Communities

Earlier today, after review, we blocked and removed several communities that were providing assistance to access copyrighted/pirated material, which is currently not allowed per Rule #1 of our Code of Conduct.

The communities that were removed due to this decision were: !piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com, !piracy@lemmy.ml, !steamdeckpirates@lemmy.dbzer0.com.

We took this action to protect lemmy.world, lemmy.world's users, and lemmy.world staff as the material posted in those communities could be problematic for us, because of potential legal issues around copyrighted material and services that provide access to or assitance in obtaining it.

  • This is not entirely correct. lemmy.world hasn't defederated from dbzer0, but it has blocked it's largest piracy community.

  • I've heard a lot of people report this, it's definitely an issue.

  • That's also how IRC works and most chat platforms are heavily inspired by IRC, unless you use a program (bouncer) that kept you online 24/7. I assume there must be something similar for Matrix

One of many reasons people left IRC for Discord.

  • I think it comes down to the US being tolerant because winning hearts and minds was more important than destroying Opium. The Taliban has no such qualms.

Worth noting however than this source is questionable and probably shouldn't be used https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/mint-press-news/

  • I just block them whenever they pop up on my feed. It is annoying but they have have ~20 active communities on Lemmygrad and Hexbear each, at some point you'll run out of places to block and they're gone.

  • Just block the 'tankie' communities and/or subscribe to communities you're actually interested in instead of browsing c/all

  • ZLibrary never went down fully. There were always ways to access it.

  • As a user of lemmy.ca, this won't affect you directly.
