  • They have been in hot water before when they were caught scraping data without consent and sending it back to Epic. Folders/files and apparently steam user info?

The client still supposedly phones home with some encrypted data and nobody is completely sure what it is, they say it's anti-cheat stuff, but then there's this:

"40% of Epic Games is owned by Tencent they're a Chinese Tech Company which the Chinese Government has a certain say in what they do. LITERALLY without Tencent Epic would go under they're the only reason why Epic Games has gotten so many exclusives and given away so many free games. There is LITERALLY a board member in Tencent that was appointed by the Chinese Government."

So can we trust them? Probably not.

  • Valve is directly responsible for skins in Counter Strike which are gotten with 100% gambling mechanics. The fact that they can be sold for real life cash adds to this. I'm not saying its only Valve doing this, plenty of other games on Steam as well, but they certainly have a horse in the race.

  • I over-pronounce Wednesday. Like wed-nes-day. Most people say wendsday.

Also apparently I'm weird for pronouncing jewelry correctly. I pronounce it like it is spelled, and what it means. It is personal ornaments often containing jewels. Jewel-ry. Not Joolery.

Same thing with Aunt. It's not Ant. There is a U in there.

  • It look like Nvme riser cables exist, so your mad scientist approach should still be doable, but you would have to continue doing mad scientist shit.

Nvme riser going to the front of the case, maybe even the top, and then get one of those rubber nipple nubs that exist for holding nvme drives in place, and bam, you can swap the drives pretty easily.

Very niche requirement, but to each their own.

You could just get one big drive and partition it to have multiple OS or whatever it is you need. Then pick which one you want to boot from when you start up. Did they get rid of that ability? I haven't messed with anything like that in years.

  • Gunfire Reborn. It's a roguelite FPS that is fun to play with friends. It's very jumpy shooty. I really dig the handling in it, and there are lots of weapons and abilities and play styles and due to the rogue like nature of it, you get to experiment with lots of stuff. It's lots of fun, but not super deep.

Phasmaphobia. Been playing this one for years somehow. It's a ghost hunting game but you don't actually hunt ghosts, you collect evidence to identify the type of ghost that is haunting a place. The ghosts will kill you though. It no longer makes me scream like it used to, but I still get chills from it. If you're looking to soil your underwear, it's a good time.

  • Sure, but paying extra for more turbo boosts in the one race that you get to play is something new. Normally if you want extra boosts you need to learn the course or the game. On that same subject, now if you come in 1st place, you don't even get to continue. (old man voice) back in my day, when you game in 1st place you got to go onto the next race. That was the point of getting good at the game.

  • Speaking of enshittification, I brought my nephew to an arcade last weekend as a birthday treat. I'm not going to get into the whole "the games are just cell phone games on gigantic screens", there are a handful of games that are still fun and worth the tokens to play. But the worst thing I didn't expect to see was this motorcycle racing game. It was your standard sit-and-lean motorcycle game with a throttle etc. But the surprise was that after swiping the card to play, after you choose your motorcycle, you get the option to swipe again for extra boosts. There were micro transactions. In the arcade motorcycle game. I was so mad.

  • I seriously don't think this game gets enough credit. It basically invented the combat system used in a bunch of AAA titles today. Like the Batman games. Sure they have been refined and improved it, but it was revolutionary at the time.

  • LMABF8 had the coldest water. I'm all for the EZH20 because I carry a bottle around with me and it's less likely to spread germs and causes less waste, but I feel like the water coming out of them is barely chilled. I like my water to be so cold it is borderline painful when I am drinking it.

Nothing hit as hard as coming out of gym class in high school and getting some fresh gulps of ice cold water from the LMABF8. Peak refreshment.

  • Just learned this in another thread so I'm stealing it and dropping it here.

    https://christitus.com/windows-utility-improved/

To install/run it pop open Powershell as admin and run:

    irm christitus.com/win | iex

It's like Ninite on steroids. Install apps, OS tweaks, debloat, and more from one little app. This is going to me by go-to any time I reinstall Windows.

  • Check out WizTree, it does the same thing as WinDirStat but is leagues faster. Like not just "this is faster", like "holy shit that was fast"

Also WizTree sounds like you are whizzing on a tree. Or maybe your some kind of tree wizard. Either way it's great.

  • "Nikolai Patrushev, part of the Russian president's inner circle and former Secretary of the Security Council, told the Russian newspaper Kommersant that Trump was duty-bound to act on his words.

Patrushev said: "To achieve success in the elections, Donald Trump relied on certain forces to which he has corresponding obligations. And as a responsible person, he will be obliged to fulfill them."

    So yeah, sounds about right.
