My guess is neither of those. People don't really base their world view on facts. Maybe his life situation improved, he found a healthier community or a hobby

Or because the other instance's users keep breaking rules. I guess even then there could be an option to ban them from all your comms but still show their comms.
I wish you could, but for all intents and purposes Lemmy and Mastodon aren't part of the same fediverse. Kbin/Mbin let you follow accounts, and I think !tails@lemmon.website automatically turns toots from some accounts (including Takei's) into Lemmy posts.
