  • They also have a bunch of integrations already built in! I use Cloudflare so all you gotta do is throw an API key into the config file and it does the rest. Which is nice cause DNS records can take some time to propagate

  • Okay, I'll bite (even though I think this is impractical)

How would communism guarantee that illegal immigrants and citizens both are paid fairly without any impacts on the end consumer? And remember, I am asking for real world solutions here, so "everyone just owns everything and sings songs together" communism isn't gonna work here.

And again, I'm not trying to be snarky. I am genuinely trying to come up with actual solutions that I could recommend in real life.

  • Yeah I am using yt-dlp to download the music, and I can set that on a cronjob no problem.

I am specifically asking for better downloading (I don't want just the raw YouTube title most of the time), album art, and ID3 tagging. But that beets.io thing looks super cool! I might integrate that into my existing python scripting instead of trying to build it all out myself

  • Now, here's something I've been pondering about this line of thought.

I believe that everyone should be paid a fair wage for a fair days work. Which means that I really don't like the fact that immigrant laborers get paid pennies compared to what an American laborers would.

But obviously raising pay for immigrants would be effectively the same thing (from a business accounting perspective) as just paying the Americans higher wages, which by your own comment would raise prices.

So I'm curious to see where you stand on this. Because to me there are a few end results and none of them are particularly amazing.

    1. Limit any jobs to American citizens or legal immigrants. This transition would be hugely detrimental to the current agriculture industry, and the higher salaries demanded by citizens would increase prices further.
    2. Raise immigrant prices to be in line with citizens. This would also raise prices.
    3. Continue with the status quo. The current status quo is horribly exploitive and needs to be changed.
    4. Lower citizen pay to be in line with immigrants. This would just never fly. You'd never be able to higher a citizen at the same rates they are paying immigrants
    5. Force companies to take a lower margin to absorb the higher pay. But this is just a dumb idea for lots of reasons and would never work in the "real world"™

This is a genuine comment too. Like I said, I feel like the best route is to just increase pay for immigrants. But that has the same result on the end consumer.

  • I thought about using the 5 year charts, but I decided against it because that would include things from the initial COVID lockdowns and I felt that skewed results. But the NASDAQ is up significantly from this time 5 years ago

  • No. America has its issues of course, but Curiosity and in a wider sense NASA is an entirely good thing that America does.

Just because we have work to do in other areas doesn't mean we can't be proud of the good we are doing.

  • Tbh I wanna know why people keep saying this. The NASDAQ is almost back up to its YTD high.

I know the NASDAQ doesn't mean much to the normal folks but to the people in charge that is "the economy"

  • The story was really good, but the game just becomes an absolute grind fest towards the end. The survival parts of the game just completely fall apart and you have to spend so much time getting food, leveling up your armor, building defenses, and just doing the "tedious" parts of a survival game.

A buddy and I finally forced ourselves to finish our playthrough in March. I'm really glad we did because the story was genuinely good, the early survival parts were really good, and its really pretty. I just don't think I could force myself through that again.

I am very excited for this one though.

  • So is this going to only work with fediverse accounts or are you gonna try and teach people about public/private keys?

And what happens when that database leaks and someone starts using your key to post illegal things? Or should we use password rules and have your library generate you a new key for every platform?

  • there's something actually just wrong with your work computer then. Talk to your IT, it's probably either OS/profile corruption or some wacky registry/group policy nonsense.
