Didn't know that exists, and that needs more marketing. I literally have a "Daily Wikipedia Article" thing and never came across it. And maybe a different name, like Simplified Wikipedia, because I thought you meant something different.
I have to believe it's for cost reasons. It's a very strange downgrade considering they already released a literally upgraded OLED version of the Switch 1.
I actually normally play on the TV, but my wife has always preferred handheld, and it wouldn't be fair for only one of to get a Switch. And the 2 came out literally on her birthday, so even less so. So I got her a Steam Deck instead and, have to say, should have gotten it sooner. It's essentially a Switch 2 - no limit recordings, OLED, more power, etc. more surprising is that it was lighter than the Switch 1, so she's really happy for that, and I have a PC so at least it'll tide us over this gen until an OLED version is released.
(Not to mention I built a cartridge dumper and dumped my versions of BOTW and TOTK to play Ryujinx. Have had 60fps, 4k, jaggy free versions for free for years, so the 10€ cost to get them on Switch 2 was just extra insulting. Those should have been free updates to make up for the lack of games at launch)
The comic is to point out why it's difficult to grow adoption of a non-android / Apple smartphone.
Even what you think is a simplified explanation is, unfortunately, too complex for most as well. Tech literacy is REALLY bad in many places. Most don't know what an "operating system" is, in many cases don't know what a hard drive is (of any kind). Software is basically magic to them. Your explanation is great for people who already know the basic concepts, but sadly most of the population isn't even at that level.
And this isn't only the elderly btw, younger people are just as clueless these days because many schools don't do computer classes anymore.
Sounds like they're lacking UI, UX people on their team, along with someone good at marketing, and money overall.
I could help with marketing and fundraising, but at the very least the UI and branding would have to be fixed first. I guess if the team was contacted if they'd like a person to fix up the onboarding process and an artist to help make a new mascot I know one who would do it. Actually what would be better would be 2 mascots, to go with the whole "making friends" motif.
Sign up definitely needs to be by interest after going through language, since you're right that the first option would totally nope most people out.
The 00s called, they want their insults back.
(Also this isn't even anime this is just a meme?)
