  • Yeah I got lucky with my battery; it's at 800 cycles currently and still holds plenty of charge for my daily use. A replacement kit is also only $50 so I figure there's not much point in trying to be efficient for a marginal lifespan improvement. I'll probably end up replacing it when it hits 1000.

  • How so? Absolute zero is the coldest possible temperature, it's physically impossible for an object to be colder. Saying that's arbitrary is like saying it's arbitrary to define 0 m/s as not moving.

  • Is that a problem? You could already just view their posts without an account, or create a burner account. Might be a hot take, but I think someone with a public account shouldn't expect to be able to hide it from specific people.

  • Can't Russians just use a Russia-based speed test service? The results shouldn't be too different from a US one, other than lower latency. Or just use one of the many other US-based services.

  • Technically speaking, no. The mantle, which is solid, comprises about 2/3 of the Earth's mass. However at a planetary scale solids are not rigid enough to maintain their shape, so the Earth is closer to a liquid held together by gravity than to a rigid solid object. See this simulation for an interesting demonstration of its properties: https://youtu.be/kRlhlCWplqk

  • I went there a while back, and I'll second the great tour. It's awesome that they actually maintain the elevator and let people go down. It's a pretty cool experience, though not for the claustrophobic. Never knew about the microbes, that's really interesting!

  • I hate that so much. Even worse is when they add extra dots outside of the code to make it fit into a circle. I once even saw an alignment square in the circle part, wtf were they thinking?
