Doesn't mean other cities haven't grown. Especially Chinese tech haven and trade hub cities are blowing up. If New York didn't grow, it probably dropped several spots.
I have over 500 games on steam. If the platform dies, that would be a major loss for me.
Honestly, platforms like steam and Netflix made me stop pirating. But with the increasing amount of streaming services, with increasing prices and more and more limitations and loss of rights, loads money grab junk content, I dusted off me old pirate hat. I am a paying usenet user, I automated all my movie and TV show downloads, I pirate games first and only buy them when they are worth it. I use Grayjay to view YouTube, because it has more freedom than a premium user.
I'm happy to pay for stuff which is good, I refuse to pay for junk, limitations and loss of my rights.
Anything you buy on Steam is also not owned by you, you only buy the rights to play their game for as long as they allow you to. Just like with Ubisoft.
Although ubisoft is a shit company, don't think it's the only one. Every game you bought on Steam, Origin and Epic aren't your property either. You just bought the right to play their game for as long as they allow you to.
If you truly want to own your products, buy on GoG (you will get the offline installer as a download) or pirate. Because when you pirate, you have more rights and benifits than a paying customer.
Companies don't even care anymore, it's just a money grab with the newest bug simulator. As soon as the first purchase bubble ended, the project is abandoned and people are stuck with a piece of junk they do not even own.
In the exceptional case a dev truly delivers, like indie studios or Larian studio, the game dev world goes mental as it shows how corrupt and fucked up they are.
Support the few proper devs, pirate the rest. I pirate everything these days and when the game is good I'll buy it.
It may be a meme, but the US is both a joke and a train wreck run by incompetent clowns and scam artists. The easiest way to describe a dystopia is the US because even though the country was already extremely fucked up, Americans continue to find ways to make it even worse beyond anyone's imagination. I wonder when Joe Exotic becomes president and by law everyone needs to have a pet tiger. It wasn't possible because he's in jail, but since recently convicted criminals are allowed to become president. Or maybe it will continue to head towards The Handmaid's Tale. Let's place bets!
Well, many Americans indeed are illiterate, and this is going to become even worse with Trump and DOGE destroying the education system. But the current system is shit as well, the level of education lacks behind compared to other western countries by far. And then there's the unregulated homeschooling in many states, which religious nut jobs, flat earthers and other conspiracy idiots love to do. Most Americans only speak one language and only learn about the US and it's history while skipping the rest of the world. Many don't even know where the UK is on a world map. Even your vice president didn't know where Greenland was, that it's close to the north pole and fucking cold. There are loads of videos of interviews with random people on the street where the average person can't even tell how many sides a triangle has.
In the movie Idiocracy they predict the world to be extremily dumb in the year 2505 but Americans probably thought this was a goal to work towards, and had trouble reading "2505" and thought it was 2025.
If they did, Trump wouldn't be reallected and Musk wouldn't be unofficial president. We wouldn't be heading towards an inevitable world War 3. People wouldn't be dying because aid was cut and because weapons are kept on delivered to destructive nazis. But sure, this is the best we can do. Fuck that.
It's the self destructive thinking that gets me frustrated. By destroying themselves they take down so many others, bringing an insane amount of agony, suffering and death.
