  • ToS have almost universally been shown to be unenforceable in court. I'm also not sure what the hell you mean by customers would lose trust. It's not as if they had access to information they shouldn't, all they did was reverse engineer the protocol. They still had to have an account and a login and they still only had access to the data that account should have. There's nothing to lose trust over the only thing beeper was doing was emulating being an iMessage client

  • The irony of this bot is that pipelinks actually prevent me from using Libre tube because it's not possible for it to register for every instance out there on Android. YouTube links actually let me use piped more easily

  • I've tried lots of others, both during the Reddit days and now during the Lemmy days. None of them let me get the exact layout I want other than sync. But that's just like my opinion

  • You should attempt to read the message again, I did not say Do not advocate for linux. I said do not pointlessly change the workflow. Gnome is a massive UI departure from windows and a workflow shift. Which is just completely unnecessary for the average person and just makes the transition hard for no reason.

  • I mean I was with you in the first half, I also tell my family either to use it I'm used to or don't ask me for help. But I would not be so rude as to put gnome on it and force them to learn a completely different workflow.

Especially when 99.9% of what they do is in a web browser there's no reason to change anything on them. I just used KDE plasma as it's already extremely Windows 7 like in layout right out of the box couple more tweaks to make it a little more Windows 10 like and they don't have to relearn a bunch of shit.

They don't need to know how to install things, I have a tray applet helper for handling updates all they have to do is Click yes, doesn't matter if they understand the differences between Windows and that. They just need to be able to open the web browser, open libreoffice, and occasionally click print. There's no reason for me to force them into an entirely different workflow.

I'm glad that your mother figured it out and seems to be doing well, but to me it just feels like an unnecessary change

  • It's a familiarity problem, those exact same people would turn around and after doing that insane install process and tell you that Windows Works without issues or a bunch of manual tweaking on like your stupid Linux. They don't see it as a problem or tweaking just because they are so used to it whereas they would have to relearn that for Linux

  • I feel like people that recommend cast iron as an alternative are misunderstanding the entire reason Teflon became popular in the first place. I ain't got time to learn a secret ritual dance of how to season My Pan. That being said, I just use stainless steel and I've learned how to use it properly so that it doesn't just stick to everything.

As long as you properly preheat your stainless steel you will have little issue with sticking, there's a neat little trick someone taught me splash some water on your pan if it stays in place and Bubbles it's not ready yet but if it starts dancing around the pan you can use it and it won't stick

  • I find it amusing that what I can only assume appears to be a professional artist as being used as an example. Considering that gnome is forcing Wayland yet has no color management. Not that x11 is perfect at color management but it at least exists

  • This is exactly what I want, I don't need 300 miles of range, I don't need luxury entertainment systems. I need a simple vehicle with decently comfortable seats and a shitty Walmart $80 bluetooth head unit. In Europe and various parts of China / Japan you can get a small electric vehicle for like 8,000 US dollars and that's what I want here God damn it

  • It's actually not lumber yard anymore, it started from that but they've Rewritten most of it. And they literally show you the code and such during their like 2+hr devs videos. It's never going to release but the technology is actually genuinely impressive.

Sadly 16GB just isn't much anymore. Windows alone will happily eat 4, steam sometimes 2 for no reason (usually not but can happen when it's web process leaks) games like icarus claim minimum recommendation is 24.

Which is absolutely insane and developers need to get their shit together but it's just the way things are going.

  • If you just want file storage Seafile. Idk about all the other crap it can do but id imagine there are plenty of good options for each one. Immich is great if your mostly concerned about pictures/videos for example

  • It's called the JCPenney effect, because at one point JCPenney attempted to get rid of all the bullshit sales and only list the real actual price. It almost bankrupted them, because instead of buying jeans from them for $20 people would go to the store next door that had literally the exact same jeans for $40 but with a sign that said that they were 40% off

This is a case where it is 100% the fault of the consumers, because we are retarded and fall for this bullshit every single time

  • Or, just use Endeavor OS and be done with it. It uses the Upstream repositories, the only thing in their customer repositories are some desktop wallpapers and a theme so you can safely remove it without breaking anything. It's a great way to get a base system in a known good configuration up quickly and from there the arch Wiki can help you tweak things to your desire it's a much better way to learn than just throwing someone into the deep end of the pool
