  • catchy, but youre here on the fediverse commenting on the same posts, talking with the same people and sitting at the same table as the rest of us, you just came in through a different door

your shitting on folks because they used the wrong https isnt out of some political or moral conviction, its shoddily disguised tribalism

  • most people do not pick their instance based on political ideals, and lemm.ee mods/admins do not heavily dissuade or encourage specific political views

hexbear has probably gotten you are used to all members of a given instance having relatively similar views, but you should get used to users of other instances not automatically being nazi sympathising shitlibs because they have @lemm.ee behind their name

  • these kinds of conflicts of interests need to be disclosed properly, clearly and up front, and folks need to be critical until its sufficiently peer reviewed

whether other findings agree with these isnt relevant, its still extremely important that folks know that corporate interests might be colouring any given paper

researchers in a given field are practically always going to have jobs with big players in those fields, but taking biases into account is still important for interpreting findings

  • do you feel like hexbear users actively calling for killings, while other hexbear users absolutely swear that 'theyre actively calling for killings' is a total misinterpretation of their wholesome culture, is going to hurt your credibility

do you feel like credibility might be useful, for instance if youre actively trying to convince people to change their political views or behaviours

  • But if you deliberately choose and only enforce the silliest, least serious example then either you’re doing it disingenuously or it’s a blanket, no tolerance approach that treats all cases equally. This is what they went with and as I’ve pointed out it’s not the latter, so I think it’s the former.

    thats fair

We had one the other day which claimed that when some one off handedly said Death to NATO they were advocating and planning the genocide of every single person living in a NATO aligned country.

if this is the case i think it is, i understood 'people of NAVO' to mean actual NAVO officials, with emphasis on the fact that those are people, especially after their elaboration

as such i didnt read their comment as framing 'death to NAVO' as calling for the genocide of every NATO aligned country, rather assuming that it was calling for violence against the people that actually make up the organization

given the image of NATO officials on hexbear, i dont feel like that was an unfair assumption even if its not necessarily an accurate one, and I dont feel like assuming it was done disingenuously is fair especially when taking into account that the person in question still seemed to prefer federation

again, assuming were talking about the same case

  • There’s plenty of implicit calls for violence on that sub, they dug for a specific example to use as an excuse because of their political stance

surely all promotion of violence is objectionable or none is.

did they actually give any reason to believe that theyre a hypocrite with a political chip on their shoulder as opposed to just being against calls for violence

i also just dont really agree that all promotion of violence is equal, and considering the content, culture and even moderation policy of hexbear i honestly doubt that you or most hexbear users do agree with that stance

  • this comment was made yesterday, when there actually was only half a dozen hex users commenting

at this point hex users massively outnumber lemm.ee users in this comment section, and while i dont think users are actively brigading lemm.ee the way they were brigading blahaj, its extremely overwhelming regardless and i see why folks want to defederate from them

i dont blame them for responding, but i also dont blame other folks for being entirely exhausted with a dozen of them being ready to respond to any comment, especially because of how widespread of a phenomenon its been and how hostile hex users have been in some of the posts theyve overwhelmed

  • being generally opposed to death threats or calls to violence on a website you use, regardless of the political affiliations of the people making them, and regardless of the political affiliations of the people they're made towards

i interpreted your comment as believing that the above is not actually happening, and that any issues with death threats are actually entirely because of who is (perceived to be) threatened and who is (perceived to be) threatening them, and i feel like that is unfair

i understand how this might be a misinterpretation, for instance because you consider 'being against death threats or calls to violence' to inherently be a political ideal

  • if youre unable or unwilling to accept that someone might feel more strongly about perceived death threats and calls for violence than copyright law for non political reasons, im not sure what to tell you

  • im on this instance because it has minimal curation, i dont support defederating hexbear and would rather users have the option to block communities and users for themselves

thats not to say that defederation would be unwarranted or that id blame you or anyone for taking that route, but i wouldnt stick around if it happened

  • im sure that theres more uproar over hexbear for political reasons, but i feel like there are other valid reasons for copyright issues not causing as much concern as perceived death threats or calls to violence

  • this is good

banning all major social media from city owned devices would be better

TikTok is a massive confidentiality hazard, but the only major difference between it and facebook is who its sending a live feed of every click, step and toilet break to

  • not from blahaj, but considering your concerns about federating with illegal content i feel like its important to note that calling for violence against or deaths of people or groups of people is illegal in large parts of the world, especially those that federation users will be from
