  • Paying astronauts to bump uglies with tax dollars could cause a bit of a controversy.

  • So remember that tipping point we were warned about? Yeah, its happening. The deep ocean currents in the southern ocean have reversed.. TLDR: warmer saltier carbon dioxide rich water is now coming up from the deep ocean instead of being trapped there. It is melting sea-ice from below and could eventually lead to the reversal or stagnation of other ocean currents.

  • Since you feel like quoting things is conducive to proper discusion:

Is it legal for a business in the United States to refuse cash as a form of payment?

There is no federal statute mandating that a private business, a person, or an organization must accept currency or coins as payment for goods or services. Private businesses are free to develop their own policies on whether to accept cash unless there is a state law that says otherwise.

Section 31 U.S.C. 5103, entitled "Legal tender," states: "United States coins and currency [including Federal Reserve notes and circulating notes of Federal Reserve Banks and national banks] are legal tender for all debts, public charges, taxes, and dues." This statute means that all U.S. money as identified above is a valid and legal offer of payment for debts when tendered to a creditor.

  • Pennies only have to be accepted if there is a state law saying so. For example in California if a landlord refuses a cash payment (pennies or otherwise) then the tenant basically gets free rent that month. Businesses generally set their own rules as to what is accepted. Just like you see signs saying "No bills over $20" - 50's and 100's are legal tender, but they can refuse them just like a bucket of pennies can be refused.

  • I was recently looking for a job and all the Dunkins around me were hiring like crazy. Thing is though, they pay shit wages and everyone knows it, so the job ads had to be disguised. They were all under a parent company name and never had pay info listed. It wasn't until you clicked the apply button that it took you to a site with Dunkin Donuts listed on it. If you have to trick people into working for you then I don't trust you to make me something im putting in my body.

  • I do a lot of research on random things. ADHD urges me to go into deep dives on very niche subjects that I don't really have any experience with. On the rare occasions that that research becomes applicable to my actual life, I do feel that I am more skilled than a complete novice would be. I still need to get the practical practice in but if I understand the core theory of something first, its way easier for me to pick it up first try.

  • Orange you glad the man go?

  • Similar to the Yahoo email I created when I was 14. Somehow C0d_G0dx69_420@yahoo (Made up but similar) isn't quite the professional impression I want to make now a days.

  • Im not sure when the update came out but I've had two forced updates in the past 3-4 months for my Pixel 6. Im assuming thats when it changed. I am very meticulous about checking settings after updates but It looks like this was only online settings for your google account, not local to the phone, which is probably how I missed it.

  • Funny how I turned off any data sharing for google years ago but the inclusion of gemini somehow voids my previous decision.

  • Alternating one ear out to keep the ear sweat down.

  • Its gotten to the point, I search from DDG or Mojeek or something instead of in YouTube. YT search is just a placebo at this point.

  • She got them Zoidberg feet.

  • That brings up a good point though. Based on just the screenshot here, it seems like the user wont have a choice of what gets uploaded. People keep some pretty raunchy photos on their phone sometimes. Even kids might have some questionable photos. This is just asking for trouble.

  • I put foil insulation on some of my bigger windows in the summer. Especially southern facing windows (in northern hemisphere). That mixed with tons of fans and the occasional cold towel when needed helps tremendously.

  • Id guess right handed people draw it "backwards" like that because they are more likely to draw a circle counterclockwise from the top, leaving them in position for a slash in that direction.

  • Im sure OP knows what they are doing here but for those that don't, be careful with capacitors. Especially larger ones like these and bigger as they can hold quite a charge for some time after being unplugged. I personally watched someone shock the shit out of themselves with this exact type of AC capacitors. They were showing someone corrosion on the terminals, bridged the connection and ended up putting his arm through a wall from the jolt.
