  • It's not the root cause, but I'm sure having easy access to a gun seems a lot quicker and cleaner than, for example, hanging yourself. I know a lot of people who probably wouldn't be around right now if their folks kept guns in the house.

  • Donald "I know treason, okay, many people - important people, everyone knows, and the treason is coming from them, okay, the Democrats, they're the treason, lots of people tell me, and smart people - they know, folks, they know who's doing the treason, okay?" Trump

  • Yeah, I have a travel backpack that I keep a charger and spare charger in because so many of my devices run off USB-C. The nice thing is, that includes my phone, and one of the chargers is for the Steam Deck, so I can get a turbocharge pretty much anywhere.

  • Every libertarian I've ever met is convinced that actors will somehow be way more rational and benevolent when laissez-faire economics allows the market to act freely, as though 'zero regulations' is not already the goal of every major corporation, in order to more completely fuck over everyone they touch.

Either that, or they're convinced they're a good enough prepper to avoid being killed or captured by the inevitable PMC armies that arise from the libertarian apocalypse.

  • This is just one of the ones that got reported. It goes on behind closed doors or on the back roads a lot more than anyone is willing to admit. When people say the police here are just a gang backed by capital and sanctioned by the state, it's not hyperbole.

  • I have my doubts on the presumption of causality on point two - are they sure an aging population causes income inequality, and not the other way around? Because I'd be more willing to believe (as I've experienced and multiple surveys have indicated) that economic strife causes couples to delay or forgo having children.

  • Sucks, but understandable. I know a couple with a kid and they're cutting back and taking on debt just to stay above water. My buddy said he's looking at taking on a second job to make ends meet.

It's wild to think that a couple decades ago it wasn't unheard of for one person to be the sole breadwinner for two families.

  • This, the Deck is a godsend on those longer flights where I would be using the switch, but it can't run current-gen games. And also, emulation. Nintendo devices are in a constant back and forth with people looking for exploits, the Deck just says "You want to run a PS2 in this bitch, here's the pcsx2 flatpak and another that passes it through the Steam GUI with images so it looks like it fits in your library, I won't ask where you got that ISO of King's Field 4 if you don't ask when Half-Life 3 is coming out, kthxbye!"

  • Honestly, if nothing else, I'm grateful for the fact that they give you a cyberware capacity - the extended gameplay trailer they showed implied that certain cyberwares would have a 'humanity' cost but the game had none of that on release, just treated like extra equipment slots, which was incredibly disappointing. Also it looks as though they're not locking weapon upgrades behind the tech tree, which is great, because the fact that you could pick up uniques that would be useless in a few levels unless you dropped everything into tech (and even then) was also a major disappointment.
