  • Sweet F, hot potato….

Don’t think I’ll be heading back outdoors again unless it’s by car…

  • Oh hey, yeah that makes complete sense re: rent cost. (Sounds very nice for a share house!)

Oh, no worries at all. I totally get it. (It’s so easy sometimes to think DDT is in its own bubble, but that’s unfortunately not the case.)

  • I’m super sorry to hear that (as you seemed to really enjoy it).

    I hope you’re feeling better.

  • Oh, haha, I see. (I meant higher socio-ec, but it has definitely gotten expensive.)

Were they big sharehouses? I don’t think I’ve ever paid more than $1500 give/take utilities?

  • Oh, reminds me of my old place! Had a very similar set up. Downsizing is super tough.

Without revealing too much, are you in a higher SE area? It still sounds like a lot?

  • What are you renting? (If you don’t mind me askin?)

I mean I don’t have a family to support so I don’t need anything big (but my toys/hobbies would beg to differ).

  • So… it’s only been recently (within the last 1-2 years) that I’ve really started shredding aeons old paperwork from primary school reports to medical files. I’ve been lugging around this expanda file that I don’t really use any more and finally pulled out all the paperwork today.

It’s not a huge pile by any means, but wow, you really can tell the story of someone’s life with this information. It’s kind of simultaneously cool/creepy. It’s also wild how people’s identities can be stolen with less.

The shredder is going to get a workout.

On a funny side note, finally got around to start wiping my old computer. For something that was running WIN7 with 3 drives (don’t ask me), it was surprisingly quick.

Like better than the majority the PCs I work with. It made me wonder why I stopped using it… Likely portability/outdated hardware.

Waiting it for it to finish ShredOS so I can take it to recycling… Honestly, attempting to do all the right recycling things has made realise how time consuming it is. Nothing is simple!

  • Maybe just a random train ride would be nice?

  • Remind me? Was it you that was moving back closer to the city? (Eek, yeah it’s wild paying mortgage prices for rent.)

  • So, I don’t want to sound harsh, but you need to not minimise your feelings. Your home/space should be your sanctuary so you can have whatever rules/boundaries you want. Forcing yourself to accommodate people that you don’t really want to is stressful and doesn’t turn out well in the end. Trust me. Been there, done that plenty of times until I learned my lesson.

Back yourself! It’s a new year!

  • Watched Night in Paradise this evening. Brutal (as Asian gang movies often are) but odd pacing and dynamic with a smidge of romance. Kind of satisfying ending, but just tragic.

Also watched The Roundup. I’ll never get tired of Ma Dong-seok‘s characters beating up baddies. The slapping in The Outlaws cracks me up.

Off to bed soon. Need to get some nutritious food into my engine, while the indulgent food might be tasty the sluggishness is not.

    Night all. ✨

  • So the big clean up is still happening. I did a vicious prune of the pot plants, but it feels so light and airy now at the front door.

I didn’t finish indoors, but I managed to do a light carpet clean of the dining area and set up the table for a lovely cheese and gin evening for NYE.

I’m still slightly weirded out by following the conventional layout meaning the couch is right in line with the front door, but I cannot deny how crazy spacious it feels after all this time. And the relief on my eyes. Being further away from the idiot box has really helped.

    Right now it’s:

    • Culling all cables to go to Officeworks recycle
    • Moving some old camera bodies on

    In the pipeline:

    • Sort out misc crap
    • Hard clothing cull
    • Finally get rid of old HD that I was only keeping to sort old photos (very stupid, it takes me ages to get to the decision I should have made at the start).
    • Unused items to the op shop

If all goes well, next clean out will be the storage.

  • Thanks! Maybe?

I really was hoping to find an equiv in Bunnings since everywhere else is shut today. Worse case I’ll have to get it tomorrow, but I’d love to finish it today.

  • Thanks, but I don’t think it’s Kapton.

I’ve had to peel some flat cables off as I’m replacing the palm rest and peeling them off has left some very light tacky residue that obviously kept them in place. I need to secure them inside the new palm rest/casing.

  • Curious, what is it about butter you don’t like?

  • The laptop runs pretty hot so looking at thermal tape. (I also have normal double-sided tape, but I think it’s dead, LOL).

  • DDT Techies, what type of adhesive/tape is used inside laptops to stick down small flat cables? What is it called?

  • Happy New Year, DDT fam!

I don’t speak about it much, but this year has probably had both my highest of highs and lowest of lows. Thanks to everyone for making this such a great place both for staying generally/mostly upbeat and positive and for solid discourse when it comes up. I really enjoy reading everyone’s comments on the daily, even if it’s just about life in general.

I really wish everything the best that 2025 has to offer you, no matter how big or how small. We’re all doing our best.

    Big love. 🖤
