I think it's true that a lot of the posts that we have are news-related and discussions are less prevalent than I'd like. I think we do have some communities that show higher levels of discussions like: FOSS, Chat, AskBeehaw and some others. I think using the active sorting and subscribing more selectively can certainly help with finding discussions.
I do agree that this is prone to more negative news - largely because people care when bad things happen, which is not necessarily true for good things. I'm not really how to help with that without 'forcing positivity'.
I certainly have thoughts about bots and the Piped in particular, you can find them in this thread that was started today https://beehaw.org/post/6945406
Unfortunately, the moderation and federation tools have received no attention at all. We've only noticed more and more problems...
I would really like to say yes but we're kinda stuck in this situation, especially considering that .world is now 10x the size of Beehaw.. We can't take this moderation load while the tools are all broken and missing.
Yeah, you're sure showing me by replying to an admin after spamming this thread with bad faith comments. Consider other ways to interact with people. You're banned.
Please help me to understand how this can be interpreted as anything but rude and dismissive

They never responded. No action was taken.

Right. Us stupid white people didn’t realize bad words existed!

I called this out:
Your comment is in bad faith. Take a step back to consider how you interact with people.

They responded with:
Your comment is racist and makes no fucking sense. Take a moment to construct an actual argument instead of just throwing around some bullshit terminology you read on the Internet. Or don't reply to me again
Source: modlog (because it was deleted)
This resulted in a 4 day site-wide ban.
Today, well, whatever this is - I see it as rage bait and just generally not a good way to start a conversation. It's also worth mentioning that the username does not inspire good faith to begin with but that's fairly minor. Do you still think that this should be reconsidered?
Personally - I think any bot that could be straight Lemmy functionality shouldn't exist but that said, I think good ground rules would be :
Bots should be clearly prompted by a command
Bots should not act in a community without mods from that community being contacted first
Bots should minimize the space they take with their messages (Example: Info on how to contact its creator should be in the bot bio rather than in every message)
I mean, for me, the greatest pro I've heard for the usage of Tailwind is that it makes collaboration much easier. For example, a PR to add styling to a component is easy to read - you just see the new classes added. Not only that but you know that it only affects that element and that no CSS is still being kept in your CSS files that is no longer being used.
The cascade is seen by some as one of the most annoying parts of CSS at times because it can make debugging harder - and many will simply abuse !important as a result.
It's worth mentioning that a lot of moderation work is kinda always in the back of your mind and work even when it's not directly - answering people's questions, chatting in our mod chat, talking to other admins, etc.
I feel that putting dollar amounts on the work would be confusing to people, they might think we'll take that money. I've thought about making a post to donate money to me personally because well, I need the money but I don't know.
The biggest bug we're waiting for a fix for is https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/issues/1999 which is pretty awful IMO..
