Democrats who only choose Democrats because the other choices more terrible
Literally me, and it's super hard to do this when I have family and loved ones being detained or deported by a system that Democrats uphold, and neighbors suffering from lack of access to healthcare. Imagine seeing and experiencing all this and then being told that voting's not enough -- that we also can't complain about it, lest we be dismissed as "Russian bots" or "Chinese shills." Imagine never seeing certain people again, and then being told that I'm the one who's privileged because I have the audacity to complain about it.
I've actually considered running for local office, but I decided against it for a couple reasons, one being my unusual work schedule, and the other being the fact that I can't imagine being around politicians that much.
Anyway, it's pretty clear we need more than elections to fix whatever it is this is.
Yeah, that's probably why these horrible people end up in office. Most Democrats I know are my father, who says he's socialist and actually used to teach history, and local politicians who seem pretty good, but I imagine they're not necessarily a good cross section of the party.
That's why it literally surprised me when Biden won the primaries, like what
I like Mojeek. It even has an option to search without using locational data, which is something that's important to me.
I'm pretty sure I was able to just go to mojeek.com, right click the address bar, and add it to Firefox. I didn't need an add-on or anything like that.
I'm not sure if it's still around, but one of my discord servers is determined to repeatedly resurrect the corpse of loss and parade it around. Usually what I see shared is a lot more subtle than this, though lol
Maybe this is what leads to so much cultlike behavior and unquestioned loyalty to one party or the other. And if you're anywhere outside these parties, or you so much as criticize a sitting politician, then you're hated from all sides and accused of being a Russian bot, which is especially disappointing when you're someone who does hold your nose and vote blue, but that's not good enough -- you have to fully toe the line, or else it's perceived as interfering with a campaign, a campaign which never ends.
Hard disagree. Again, you're blowing this way out of proportion. A movement isn't one mod. It's pretty clear that users were more interested in jerking their hate boners than in the movement itself.
It's telling that even after these years, you're still unable to gain a little healthy perspective on this. It's really hard to admit that you were wrong, especially if you actively contributed to what was essentially a targeted harassment campaign.
This is like talking to Gamers about why death threats to devs are wrong lol
I've said it before: Every Democrat I know in real life seems like an empathetic person, so it's astonishing they choose these ghouls to represent them.
Yeah, whatever happened was a totally disproportionate response to a single bad interview for an audience of people who were never likely to support the movement in the first place.
I guess it's super hard to put one's personal feelings aside for the greater good, and it's frighteningly easy to get drawn into dogpiling and scapegoating a single person rather than pausing and reflecting on forming a more constructive response.
Neither of the communities ever really recovered from that, and in my opinion that says a lot more about the myriad users than it does about one mod.
I used to think horseshoe theory was an ironic joke. It's so obviously bogus that it took a while for it to sink in that some people actually believe it.
This is also why I wear my pro-LGBT+ shirts around town. In a progressive city somewhere, it would probably make little difference -- but in this rural conservative area, it's really important to show people that they have allies.
Plus, it works as chud repellant. I have fewer people approaching me telling me the most bigoted shit I've ever heard, thinking I'll agree.
it did actively harm the public perception of the movement
Again, this is greatly exaggerating the nature of the situation. Even if it did, it was so minor that it could have easily recovered. It's not like irreparable harm was caused.
It’s clearly an altered headline made to get attention
Which part is inaccurate?
Edit: Nevermind, I see it now. Yeah, not a very good source, huh? But still, we need to speak out against our nation's support for a genocidal regime -- every chance we get.
The mods were misfiring for sure, but what made me step away were not the mods -- that could have been addressed over time -- but the users. My reaction to the video and what the mods said was basically, "Oh haha, that was bad!" and I think that's where it ended for me. I had noted issues with the mods prior to that and brought them up, and no one seemed to care at that time -- I even pointed out several times that one of the mods had a stickied post on their profile specifically requesting interviews -- so it's hard for me to believe that the users were acting in good faith. Why did no one seem to care before that interview happened? But everyone got drummed up into an emotional frenzy, and that sort of thing is what tears movements apart -- not one or two bad mods.
I agree the mods shouldn't have positioned themselves as spokespeople, but there were so many other ways it could have been handled without melting down.
