  • I’ve been in both positions – dirt poor and couldn’t get care, and also decently well-off (not rich) and still couldn’t get care, even with good insurance.

Now I’m destitute, partly because of health care debt, and am struggling to get any care at all. I seriously feel like the system actively wants me to die.

  • I think you’re totally right. She’s a really good mouser, and normally kills what she catches – until this week. I live in a 140 year old house, and the mice like to come inside for warmth in winter. This will only be the second winter she’s lived here with me, and she’s brought me 2 live mice this month – but only one into my bed. She may be getting frustrated that I don’t kill and eat them like I’m supposed to.

e: it kinda seems she’s trying to make it as easy as possible.

  • Dysautonomia causing SVT and sinus arrest. I have a loop monitor now and am on heart meds.

e: they wanted to send me home with ‘anxiety’.

  • Follow up:

Alt text: Now she's looking at me like this, like it's my fault I lost it. I tore the whole bed apart. She caught it, and I have to sleep with it, but that's my fault, obviously.

  • got them to resume treatment after they dicked around for a month and he refused to leave because he was going to die if he left.

I had to play this card once, too. I was in the cardiac unit for 28 days, and they were going to send me home because they couldn’t figure out what was wrong, and the insurance decided I wasn’t worth the expense anymore.

I refused to leave until they gave me a diagnosis, because i would have just died otherwise.

Pretty sure the healthcare system still wants that.

  • I get you, but let us have hope for 5 minutes. It’s more than we’ve had in our whole lives.

  • Also, it’s possible to be privileged and have your life wrecked by this system.

Just fucking imagine what it’s like to be underprivileged and never have a chance in the first place.

  • I assumed it was a stock photo. I never hold anything against faces I see in media, especially when they’re lit this professionally, because they’re often stock photos.

  • Not in science, you can’t. Only in the colloquial versions of those words.

  • People really can’t understand the economy turns like the Titanic. Trump fucked it, but we didn’t see the real effects until Biden’s term. We were heading into another Great Depression, and coupled with the effects of Covid, people massively underestimate how well the economy actually did under Biden.

Trump will coast on the Biden administration’s success for a while, and will take the credit. Once he fully fucks everything (and IF there are fair elections in 2028, which doesn’t seem likely), a future democratic administration will be blamed for the effects of trump’s fuckery. Repeat ad infinitum.

That’s how it’s worked for a century, and uninformed voters will always fall for it.

  • Yep, saw that. I retracted my links. I am not afraid to say I’m wrong online. Thanks for the correction.

  • Right, I think I wasn’t clear. I didn’t mean farming karma here, I meant posting here to copy Lemmy comments to post on Reddit to farm karma there.

  • If you want good karma with top comments that won’t be immediately called out as stolen from another Reddit thread, maybe, since some people have got wise to that? I dunno. I’m probably giving this more brain power than I should (eta because of all the reddit repost bots in my feed lately, probably.)

  • Musk says Americans will have to face 'hardship' if Trump wins

Eat them before they eat you.

    PORK SAUCE:

    INGREDIENTS
    1  tablespoon honey
    1  tablespoon Dijon mustard
    1  tablespoon soy sauce
    1  clove garlic

    DIRECTIONS
Combine all ingredients and use as a basting sauce for pork.

Totally unrelated trivia of the day: humans have often been called ‘long pork’.

  • I like idiotic slapstick as well as – well, no one really. I hate it.

But I got tired of this puppet show in weeks last time. There’s no comedy here, just tragedy.

  • All social* systems are susceptible to bigotry, and fascistic capitalism most of all.

Labour isn’t perfect by any stretch, but pretending both sides have been equally to blame is just as unfortunate in the UK as it is in the US, Germany, Australia, and Canada. One side may be slow to put your needs to the fore, but make no mistake, the other wants you dead.

  • It’s been decades, but… you press the button, spin to the station, then release the button?

Am I remembering correctly or should I check into the home now?

  • Your cat appears to have melted, and your wall outlet has gone italic. You may want to turn down the heat.

  • While law enforcement does not believe Thompson's killing is part of a trend targeting health executives

    Well, not with that attitude.

  • The reasons for that, though, are largely because the NHS has been under attack by the right wing for more than a decade. It was a huge inflection point for Brexit, and there’s been a major effort to break it so they can point at how broken it is.

Don’t use the NHS issues to judge how such a system would or should work for trans care. It’s been actively sabotaged.
