  • I’ve worked with a lot of Wood PLA (almost exclusively Amolen). It stains fine, but I always apply a very small amount to a fine bristle brush and use that to apply it to the parts. I don’t use much, and then I let it air dry in a room that’s at least 70° overnight before doing anything else with it.

I don’t know that I’d ever sand blast. I’ve manually sanded (which has allowed me to better fake “grain” before applying stain.

  • Good. Everything from Marvel could use just a little more time to bake right now. I’d rather an additional six months to a year of development and fine tuning than a poorly paced/plotted series next month.

  • I don’t like the man’s politics, and I think it’s terrible that he’s been allowed to hold office this long with his deteriorating health.

That said, I also find it so sad to see any person reaching a point where their cognitive abilities are this unpredictably impaired. Sudden freeze-ups and clear moments of detachment remind me too much of my father in-law and conversations I’ve had with him as his dementia develops.

  • I wouldn’t describe myself as a fanboy, but here’s my reasons for continuing to use an iPhone and not moving to Android:

    1. I’ve been a Mac user for over 20 years. I’ve got a lot of Mac software that I use that have iOS only counterparts, and I’ve no interest in comparable software. The inertia of daily use software is a huge incentive for me.
    2. In the case of USB C vs Lightning or 2.0 vs. 3.v, I genuinely don’t use USB for file transfer to and from my phone. I may be a unicorn, but iCloud file sync and iCloud Photos have always worked reliably for me. Documents are on my iPhone, iPad, and Mac when I go looking for them. Photos and videos are there when I go looking for them. I don’t think I’ve plugged my iPhone into a computer (Mac or otherwise) in the last four years.
    3. I’ve charged on a QI charger for as long as I can remember (and a 3d printed MagSafe stand now). I have several lightning cables stashed away, but I actually loaned them out more than I use them. And my battery life is not a major concern for me. Since the iPhone X I’ve mostly managed all day battery life between my bedside and desktop chargers. And most days I use my phone lightly enough that I don’t need frequent charge ups.
    4. And the last bit: long term support. I hand down my devices about two years after getting them (in my immediate and extended family). I have family members with six year old iPhones who are still receiving software updates to the most recent OS. My iPhone X being used by my daughter won’t get iOS 17 this year, but it’s from 2017. And when I upgrade later this fall I’ll replace the battery in my 13 Pro, and hand it off to her. My son has an iPhone 12 that my wife handed down to him, last year. iPhones “wear” well.
  • Man, I don’t know. When I was living in Concord, I felt like there were thousands of people commuting to SF from over thirty minutes east of us. It may have just been my misperception at the time (about six years ago), but it always felt like the demand for housing for the tech sector employees commuting to the city or further was always outpacing the capacity of the existing towns east of Oakland.

  • 90% of my deliveries are “leave at door”. 5-6% of the “hand it to me” orders are normal and friendly encounters. The other “hand it to me” orders are always weirdos. “Want some weed”, “come in and drink with us”, topless women (who are usually drunk or high themselves), hoarder houses with cats spilling out the door… It’s not weekly, but it’s more than once a month that someone comes to the door in less than a fully clothed state.

  • You should also be able to deliver a pizza without being hit on. I’m a dad side-hustling to take care of my family. I don’t need women answering the door topless and making “do I get extra sausage” jokes. And I also don’t need old ladies hitting on me when I bring their heavy groceries to the door for a Safeway delivery.

Whether someone is the deliverer or the deliveree, just get the transaction done and move on with your day. No harassment needed.

  • I’ll recognize it, but I’d rather not appreciate it. I’d appreciate it if half the country had never been infatuated with an historically proven con-man with delusions of grandeur. Legitimately one of the must frustrating realities for someone who believes in democracy to grapple with is that half the population MUST be less than average intelligence (and even some of greater intelligence will choose willful ignorance).

  • I’ve had lots of luck removing them, but I’m usually very patient with the pull. Slow, relatively level pulling with the end wrapped around my tweezers twice always seems to work. I think I’ve only snapped one out of dozens, and a dropper of IPA dissolved the adhesive in a couple seconds, so it wasn’t that big an inconvenience in the end.

  • I’ve had an EcoTank for two years and have been VERY happy with it. My only complaint is that I should have gone for a model that allows double sided printing.

The price on the ink is great, that you can fill individual colors as needed is nice, and the print quality is very good.

  • If nothing else, I’m in for the interactions between the three leads. Captain and Ms. Marvel are fun portrayals, and I think Monica could be a really great addition. The place swapping aspect could be a lot of fun early on and create some interesting hijinks.

It’s also fun to see some up-front suggestions of tying together the more recent marvel universe (beyond the obvious inclusion of the heroes) what with the Statue of Liberty’s appearance in the trailer.

  • So much of the order of these films and series got thrown off track by COVID. Nothing has been released in the order originally intended, so addressing some of these significant events may be left up to the next wave.

And I don’ mean this to excuse the other elements of these projects that have been bad or poorly thought out. I just genuinely believe that the last three years have not gone AT ALL as originally intended by Marvel.
