  • I don't think this is entirely accurate. I understand what you're saying, that a determined person can relatively easily bypass this hurdle and view the content.

Still, I can see value in creating a hurdle. It's not unsurpassable, but it requires energy to pass it. And sometimes that's enough to not be the low hanging fruit. Maybe the poster wants to avoid trolls, or they don't want that particular content to be easily scraped.

  • I have a friend who works for an independently wealthy minor noble. The guy is getting his masters as an adult and has four people "helping" him. My friend had to fly to another city because the noble's son was moving there, and they needed my friend to set up the cable and assemble furniture before the son got there.

  • Didn't things look worse when Nazi Germany was at its height? Didn't things look worse when slavery was at its height?

The state of the world has been much worse before, and things still got better.

We have to acknowledge that a lot of people died, and a lot more were hurt, before things got better. And it may come to that in our times as well. But barring nuclear disaster, things can improve. And one prerequisite is not agreeing to lay down and die.

Like I said, I get it. Seems like anyone with any real power doesn't recognize the severity of the situation. Seems like there's no justice. Are you going to say "no point in trying"? I don't think so because you wouldn't be so mad about it if you didn't care. I don't have the answer. But believing change is possible is a crucial ingredient in change happening.

  • I get it, he's doing all kinds of shit that's illegal now. And I get it, people need to stand up to him.

At the same time, let's not do his work for him by treating it like a forgone conclusion he will do whatever he wants.

Sometimes politicians, law enforcement and just rank & file workers need assurance and official blessing to not comply.

I don't like how things are going at all, and want to be clear eyed about the situation. Still, lets not assume it's all over, cause it's not.

  • In the faq section it asks who the leadership is and they say they're decentralized. It asks who they're partnered with and says "if you're interested in partnering reach out". It asks what are your demands and essentially says "we'll figure out specifics once we have more people onboard".

This website presents itself as a movement, but I would guess is the work of one person or a handful of people, who don't have experience in this area.

Which isn't to say people have to have experience to get involved. And it isn't to say we don't have a bunch of valid reasons to be mad and ready to take action. Just that from a strategic standpoint, if you're asking people to put their livelihoods at risk you need to be able to earn their trust, and you need a clear explanation of what benefit participants can expect to get.

  • Interesting thoughts, thanks for sharing.

On the subject of drift from "ideal" belief systems to corrupt ones, I would argue that what we're seeing is actually evolutionary pressure.

If we think of ideas as living things, and we place them in an ecosystem of other ideas, they inevitably have to adapt to keep reproducing. (Spreading to another person's mind)

So generally they have to be the sort of idea one would feel compelled to transmit, and then be transmittable. They have to be understood, received.

I think many people have received a transmission of ideas that is very different from the one that was sent. And then the various pressures of life transform those ideas more.

That can be bad as we've seen in cases of Christianity, Marxism and more. It can also be good, because then the belief system becomes sustainable. I'm thinking of certain religions which were batshit when they started, but in order to live on they moderated. Not that they're entirely reasonable now, but they're able to live on and wouldn't have in their original form.

  • One advantage as I understand it between a worker cooperative and an ESOP is that the worker cooperative has a one person one vote system. It avoids the issue you mention about not having voting shares. I worked at a place with an ESOP and just the managers had shares. And even there they didn't prevent the business being sold to private equity. Sure they got paid out but now that previously family owned business is part of a monopoly in our industry.

  • First, I think OP is making a big deal where it's not necessary. And the US as a nation has done many fucked up things.

That said, thinking about people not nations, I'm American and I didn't elect a felon. Yes, 77 million voters picked Trump, which is shitty and doesn't make sense. 75 million voters chose Kamala. And around 110 million people of voting age didn't vote at all. (Which also doesn't make sense to me)

But you can imagine for those 75 million people it's not going to feel good to be painted with the same brush, and it's not kind to do so.

  • How long have they been messaging you? Are there other cases where they've indicated knowledge of "real life" events?

To me it seems more likely they've compromised your email or texts than that they got lucky and observed you going to the police station. If you mentioned in a digital communication to anyone that you were going to file a report, and the stalker compromised something digitally, then they would know.

For the stalker to actually observe you going to the police they would have to be pretty dedicated to watching your home, which is both risky (that they could be seen) and labor intensive.

If you drove there, it's conceivable that they put a tracker on your vehicle.

Probably doesn't need saying but I think it's extremely unlikely they have sway over the police or made a report disappear. It's easy enough for nothing to happen in the normal course of business.

Lastly, do you live with someone or have a close relationship with someone that you don't get along with? If you're experiencing "real life" interactions with this stalker seems more likely it's someone you know rather than a complete stranger.

  • That's great we're in agreement. Your comment said "... a lot of people who published research before their marriage continue to publish under the same name even if they changed their name."

So I didn't read your comment as saying woman shouldn't change their name, because you're describing women changing their name, and then not using the new name in a specific context.

  • Are you saying that the people who came up with the original surnames are more qualified than people today? At least with my idea when people come up with a new name they have to use it themselves, rather than their defenseless children.
