  • Stephen Miller is what you get if you take Steve Bannon and change his blood from 80 proof to concentrated formaldehyde.

  • I fully agree with this, I’m just not sure what form this would take.

For execution, a dissolution of all properties, patents, inventory, and all assets seized and sold, followed by barring at least the C-suite from working in the same field ever again?

  • …per day, or is this another “shucks Mr. Billionaire, I guess I gotta fine you something” punishment?

  • My dad reading to my siblings and me in our footie pajamas on the living room couch before bed.

  • I can understand the argument that trawling through years worth of posts to see if someone ever said something naughty is a bad thing, because it doesn’t allow people to grow and change.

That being said, having very little or only a few innocuous comments means you can’t tell if someone is arguing in bad faith, and by the time you can tell in the discussion itself, they’ve already won. That, and in real life people have reputations for a reason. A clean slate for each and every comment (or a small group of comments) would lead to chan behavior, which is a net negative.

Something like 6 months of history, the most upvoted/downvoted/controversial comments (and of course their context) might be an alternative. I’m not sure how well hiding history and silencing users would work: that could just force trolls to make new accounts, which makes things worse.

  • Might wanna subscribe to HydroHomies. Or lay off the salt, like I should be doing.

    …you first, though.

  • Why yes, if you hold ethical stances, you don’t tolerate egregious deviations from them, but how on Earth is judging someone for their actions and attitudes akin to bigotry?

  • This isn’t 8chan, and I have no wish to see it emulate it. Revenge porn, CSAM, stalking and harassment: that absolutely should be kicked off and reported.

But if you can’t imagine a scenario where a left leaning, privacy focused userbase might look at willingly going to law enforcement without the above issues and balk, you need to review your history.

  • No doubt, but there’s a difference between a van trundling down the street and a welcome mat and a tray of tea cooling in the living room.

  • In all seriousness, we all appreciate your work. These are the growing pains that are to be expected, and your hard work and transparency (and writing it up at a level that even I can understand) is welcome.

  • I’d imagine that there are a lot of users and communities on here that want law enforcement as far away from the Fediverse as possible…

  • Yeaaaaaah I wish that sleep deprivation was a pain I hadn’t felt in years…

One thing that I haven’t seen people talk about when dealing with sleep deprivation is how your digestive system slows down or gets grumblier. I’d imagine those who suffer from IBS would get it worse when they can’t sleep. As for me, I find treating myself as if I’m sick can help: warm broth and crackers and other simple, easy to digest foods can settle my stomach after a sleepless night

  • Clearly we must all be taking daintier sips.

  • For the same reason, they walk faster, too.

  • “The correct way, of course.”

  • Ah so it’s not a “you scrub my butthole, I scrub yours” situation?

    That would explain last Thursday…

  • People are some of my favorite humans.

  • I kind of like Chitter, myself. Sounds like something a creature that exudes Musk would do.

  • Women can be sexist and nonwhite people can be racist: being a member of a marginalized group unfortunately doesn’t inherently keep someone from perpetuating the discrimination against said group. It’s absolutely true that a lot of, and definitely the majority, of homophobic people are straight, but a lot of the terror-based homophobia stems from projection.

  • Please tell me that they chirp and trill at each other constantly like very small, furry old biddies.
