  • I don't think that's a good argument though. Any other email provider is as easy to set up an account with and is more privacy friendly: proton, skiff, posteo. If they made a big blunder like that, I can only expect them to use other big tech stuff in the background like google DNS servers etc. Unti someone points it out

  • It doesn't necessarily need to remain that way. For example,we should have the option to make our profiles private. We should also be able to create pseudonyms for content we submit. The content will still be federated, but not necessarily linked to one user ID

  • That is part of the problem though. Proper privacy allows you to express what you want to, without self censorship. The issue is not: don't speak about x, but rather: speak about it and feel comfortable that you can do it in a safe environment. I fully agree with the account linking though

  • I think it's actually the other way around. BECAUSE phone numbers are linked to our accounts and identities, it makes us vulnerable to SIM swapping. They should only be used for calling and texting people, nothing more. But nowadays we need to link our personal details to them, our accounts, which introduces this vulnerability because then it creates this incentive for an attack

  • I would argue both have evolved in the opposite way though. Windows has become so unintuitive for me with every version after win 7. Splitting up control panel in many different locations. Multiple methods to remove different applications,... On windows server, it was even worse, and as soon as I moved away from Microsoft's default built-in crap to third party tools, things actually became much easier.

While with Linux, things worked out of the box for me for a long time already and the process of things make sense a lot times, taking into account the requires minimal knowledge is there.
