  • That's... Pretty nice, and once you've sourced everything, not that much more than a cm4 with good specifications...

Are they available in the UK easily? I realise that's probably a Google-it answer, but I've not had chance to research yet

  • Those are fair pointers, but I suppose in the back of my mind I'm also thinking about power draw as well... Speed isn't a massive retirement, it's going to be hooked up to a poe network, if I wanted speed I'd first be putting in cat 6 or something...

Not heard of a beelink, time to research, thanks.

  • Hey, you've found what's good for you :) I did sample the Oban and it was nice, but not at the price they were hawking it at. My current overall favourite is probably a tossup between the Laphroaig Cairdeas I got in 2017 (I think? I'm a bit fuzzy) and a 12-year non-chill-filtered Aberlour... which are such different taste profiles as to be practically incomparable :D Everyone has different tastes, so... going back to the thread starter, let's celebrate different tastes.

  • Laphroaig for the win... Was in Oban a few weeks back for a holiday and got a bottle of Kilchomain from the shop across the road from the distillery (no way was I paying the distillery prices - £75 for a 10 year?). Really enjoying it, quite liking the salty overtones.

  • Ooh, I use Feedly already for (many) RSS feeds, so if that's possible, it'll be useful. Of course, I'm hoping to switch to Sync for Lemmy when it hits - I've pretty much gone cold turkey on Reddit now; it'll be interesting to see if things change over there.

  • I used push notifications for messages, and let Sync get it for me so I didn't install the steaming pile of [redacted] that was the official reddit app.

I was happy even with the necessary delay that induced - I was mainly dealing with either comment replies or notifications from followed authors on /r/hfy

  • This is an intruiging subject. I was part of reddit's /r/patientgamers subreddit (lurking, mostly) because it was a good place to get insight into valuable gems that I missed first time through because I didn't have time or didn't want to spend £60 or £70 on a brand new game, and would rather wait for a sale.

Nowadays, I generally wait for Game Pass, Ubi+, PS+ or similar to get the game. Sure, I spend on subscriptions, but the games I play if I count out the costs it's a lot cheaper.

I do also play retro games - 'retro' being an ambivalent term for me, as it somehow is used pejoratively throughout the modern gaming community, which I disagree with: They're good games, just not on modern hardware or systems - quite often. So - yeah, sometimes I lag, sometimes I'm up-to-date, oftentimes I'm on my Steam Deck so I get to play slightly older games at a high fidelity on a handheld device, which is awesome.
