  • Stocks are all about timescales. Each hour, day, or week, stocks might go up or down for any number of reasons. Since trump took office, stocks are significantly down from where they were when he started.

    If you look at different timescales, you'll always see some dips and bumps, and over long enough timescales it'll always be up. You need to pick the timescales that make sense for what you're trying to discuss.

  • These kids already have been left behind by someone and they filled the void with people telling them it wasn't their fault.

    And your solution is to leave them even more behind? That's just compounding the problem.

    The solution is guidance and therapy. What you're describing is retaliation.

  • They disabled one way of doing it. You can still use the Kindle for PC app, or Adobe Digital Editions app.

    I get free books from Amazon sometimes and just use ADE then convert them to free ePUB books using deDRM in Calibre.

    It's really no more difficult than the old way, you just need to use the app instead of the web browser.

  • The joke is that the 40k game is set in the far future which kinda blends scifi, horror, and fantasy elements. It's not very popular so to play it with high quality components, you need to craft them yourself.
    D&D is super popular, so it's easy to pull premade resources.
    Vampire the Masquerade is set in modern day, so you don't need anything crafted.

    40k = Warhammer 40,000

    TTRPG = Table Top Role Playing Game

    DM = Dungeon Master, which doesn't technically apply to a Warhammer 40,000 game, they're usually called Game Masters in anything that isn't D&D

    D&D = Dungeons and Dragons

    VtM = Vampire the Masquerade

    RL = Real Life

  • It makes no sense for the SSA to run a fediverse instance, because they don't need to host community discussions.

    They need to be posting on their website with an RSS feed, just like every other institution.

  • These wouldn't work on a standard western plumbing system. The leafs wouldn't break down on water and would clog the system.

    Wet wipes are bad enough, couldn't imagine the mess actual leafs would cause.

  • I mean... Electronics and the Internet are also following the laws of physics. But I get what you mean, levers should be the only activation, and gravity should be the only requirement.

    That being said, electronics in our devices do tend to reduce the amount of water and power that appliances use. Dumb devices are extremely inefficient, even though there are fewer points of failure.

    It sucks that a 1950's fridge can still function just fine today, but it also is a bigger strain on the power grid, and a leak in the refrigerant would destroy the ozone.

  • If you're behind $1000 in taxes for a $250000 house doesn't mean the government takes your whole house and you get nothing.

    They typically sell it at auction and you get the leftovers.

    If you've lived in the house after a lifetime, you'd either have to be extremely behind in taxes, have not maintained the house, or both, for it to be a complete loss.
