If not by their actions, how do you judge someone? I cannot know "who they are" unless they either tell me or show me, and actions speak louder than words.
So many people will claim to be "good people" then go on a 20 minute rant about the "gay groomer agenda" and how gay people should "leave children alone" and how black people "commit too much crime and need to be policed more for it" when you give them one glass of wine and start talking about politics. Their overall stance is clear, and it isn't on the side of "being a good person."
Why the fuck did it take 3 years forthis to happen? That just a ridiculously slow process after someone aided a coup attempt in broad daylight and lied on national TV about an election being stolen.
The thing is that liberals feel the need to obsess over "fairness."
If you really ban hate speech from a place, then it will appear to mostly be inhabited by more left leaning people. The vast majority of hate speech comes from the right.
But at forms WANT those right WI gers to drive engagement, so they don't enforce their TOS on open racism so long as it's a conservative doing it. But if you're on the left and repost it to criticize it you get dinged.
It's bullshit that shows how many companies are run by fascists who don't bother hiding it anymore. But the liberals eat it up because it wouldn't be "fair" to ban conservatives "for their conservative views."

Nobody is telling you what to "think or see" when an instance gets deferderated. You're welcome to think whatever you like, and to go seek it out. You're just not welcome to bring it into some spaces.

Car insurance companies are literally allowed to discriminate by sex and will openly tell you that they do so, why would health insurance be different?
I wish some of these subs would stand their ground and make the admin replace them. That would cause the admin seven bigger headaches down the line, because a lot of the mods they impose would likely not be as good, not be as committed, and would be less strict in moderation, leading to a big pain for advertisers who suddenly would see lots of content next to their ads that is very not good.

I disagree, that isn't a "polite disagreement" and is, absolutely, "just transphobes attacking people trying to live their own life" as you put it. Every time that "Argument" happens it's openly done in biologically unfounded ways by people who simply don't understand how our bodies actually work- yet those arguments get mass upvoted by people who also don't understand how biology actually works and who believe that trans athletes get some insane, unfair advantage.
If you want to pass laws to restrict trans people from sports, then you want to pass laws to discriminate against trans people. That's not really up for debate IMO, it's a straight up fact; it's what you're doing when you advocate for laws that are not founded in science, that are specifically targeting a tiny minority for the chance that one of that tiny minority might beat cis athletes in an "unfair" way, you're advocating for bigoted laws.
Such arguments are also inevietably filled with people misgendering trans people, deliberately calling trans women "men" and hiding behind the "I'm talking about biology" argument to do so.
Replace the word "trans" with "black" and you'll find that people are making literally identical arguments to those against desegregating professional sports leagues 80 years ago. Literally word for word.
If a lot of mods stopped using reddit, it would get absolutely inundated with actual regulatory attacks because it would get flooded with child porn, explicit harrassment, and nazis.
Any of the top 10 communities having enough mods resign would cause absolute havoc for reddit, yet they consistently screw over mods.
I mean, to me (in the DC area, so not nearly as bad as it was further north) it just smelled like a campfire outside to me. It wasn't a particularly offensive smell.
But I could FEEL that the air quality was bad every time I took a breath, and I don't have any kinds of respiratory issues.
This may unironically be the first time I've ever suggested this: this may actually be a use case for the block chain.
If the user data from all instances was being saved to a distributed and verified ledger, it would fix the problem of one node going down losing all of those users, and would be a decentralized yet centralized way to go about it.
