  • Well it's two situations. Look at Google dropping the older Nests. There you can lay in a fine.

For the folding company could make it part of declaring bankruptcy. Standard paperwork.

Either release all your source or prep the needful. Once this is common and expected could even force companies to maintain a public branch to release on cue.

Owning IP is fine. Products ending up in a landfill due to software is not.

Hopefully the law also expands to actually owning all of a product you own. Not paying BMW to unlock the heated seats already in the car you fully paid for.

  • Printing a few fun sets of chess pieces.

My concern is weight. I was thinking of embedding earth magnets into the base for weight and stability.
Or print in vase mode without a bottom and fill will sand then epoxy a cap on.

  • The crazy thing is loads of people stopped pirating and paid for a streaming service that was affordable, worked, met thier needs.

Now it's all splintered with corporations wanting a piece of the pie.

  • I feel like there should be a law to release the bits we need to support these efforts.

Too many times a product will die or a company will fold along with all its documentation.

Maybe release a final firmware opening up a product. Or at the very least a git repo with api documentation.

  • Yeah that's a solid recap.

I now possess the knowledge about generating power to life off the grid using old motors salvaged from a junkyard thanks to my own personal research and video tutorials.

My intent with bringing that up is the hope of the existence of a document covering this topic in a preppers backup.

In a post apocalyptic scenario humanity has been proven to band together in groups and cooperate to survive. It's less murder/greed and more sharing/helping. In these small groups it would only take one prepper or even an engineer to setup a generator or even just get solar panels to hookup for basic electricity.

Many of these points could be moot in a nuclear scenario where were dealing with EMPs and radiation.
