  • I have a peer that manages his father's IT needs.

He setup loads of server stuff there with an IPSEC tunnel to home so he does cross backup back between the sites. He'll setup something like a game server at the office on a VM mapped to an obscure port then a registered domain so the family can game together. Fun stuff.

He doesn't charge his dad for IT needs. They just expense all the server stuff to the business along with a secure location (building has proper physical security) with managed AC for his heavier 24/7 server needs. He can also order decent gear for the rack.

  • I'd imagine that you could even take podcasts and run them through a speech recognition app much like visual voicemail does. This could then parse the text and flag a podcast for manual review by a human to ban an account, could even auto suspend the account until its challenged or reviewed. You don't even need someone to listen to everything since Podcasts and usually spoke word.

Hell I bet I could build a pipeline to run on a local server in under a week that does this. Download the audio. Parse it into text. Then parse the text for any trigger words or phrases.

  • This specifically depends on what you want to run.

I'd say grab any unused PC in your home or off the street and it'll work. Raspberry Pi are good for low wattage so it's not expensive to run 24/7/365.

The electricity savings would pay for itself over time vs a 10 year old random desktop.

  • This hits nearly all my local community centers since they're not massive. Each one I can think of has 10-30 employees.

I can see it being a decent move with the 75% discount on other products.

Start with the free basic and add on for the rest.

Business premium includes things like intune and defender for laptops. So doing a 75% off add-on wouldn't break the bank.

  • I think in a other timeline I'd be very happy working in a factory for my career. Building something or maintaining the systems. Putting in a hard days work and going home feeling proud I did a good job.

Supporting my 2 kids, stay at home wife and owning my own home with only my income.
My kids needs were all met. All utilities paid up, school supplies and toys, fridge always fully stocked.
My job was secure. 20+ years at the company with a competative salary. My job is secure and safe with my union protecting me. Might retire in 30 or so years with a solid pension and a cool 50 at the factory.
No need to get a job after I retire. Just enjoy my time with my new grandkids my children are happy to have in a strong economy.

But. We're not in the fucking twilight zone.
The American Dream was taken from the masses and they want us "back on the line" for pennies on the dollar in profits.

"I make a penny while the boss makes a dime. That's why I sit on company time."

No. We now make a penny while the CEOs make thousands and were left hungry, homeless and sick.

Get the fuck out of here with that shit.

  • “I condemn this act, not only because it is a crime against our institutions and community, but also because it is fundamentally un-American. This nation was founded on the right to free speech and open expression, and our libraries are the embodiment of that promise. Libraries are designed to be community-based safe harbors of free thought. Libraries offer ideas. This is their fundamental role in our democracy and why they are so vital. This act of violence is not just a crime against the public catalog of literature that was destroyed, but also is a violation of the marketplace of ideas that is a bedrock principle of American life.

This action will not be, should not be, and cannot be tolerated inside the 21st Senate District, this state, or this nation. There is no place for such hate, censorship, or intimidation in Beachwood, nor this country.”
