To Trump fascism has been a means of filling his coffers and dodging criminal prosecution for his many crimes. That kind of changes now, though, as he will have more or less achieved those ends entirely. His twilight years are coming to a close. He doesn't have an infinite stretch of time in front of him. The MAGA movement wants blood. They want to start on the home front, with mass deportation of Latin Americans and widespread institutional violence against queer people. But fascism as political movement does not and can not end there. By necessity, it will escalate into small territorial gains and proxy wars before devolving into conquering military campaigns and eventually collapse under its own weight. He's already preparing for this. This is legitimately already happening. He's already starting to create ideological justification for the forced annexation of several nearby nations.

Fascist countries have a life cycle. It's pretty hard for Fascist nations to justify their own existence without constant conflict. There always has to be another enemy. Fascist thought is dominated by ultra nationalism, patriotic purity tests, and racialism. The more dogmatic the fascist becomes, the more they come to see the world itself as the inheritance of their race and nationality. Unless Trump intends to abandon fascists at some point (something I think is pretty unlikely), then he will have to justify the continued existence of the fascist movement. His followers will be angry, and he has to keep them that way.

Harris campaigned on acceleration too. She's been explicitly in favor of giving Israel whatever they want the entire time. They blocked Palestinians from talking at the DNC. They keep blocking any UN resolutions demanding ceasefire. There are no rumblings. Trump won't need to do anything. Gaza is already destroyed. The genocide has been in full force for over a year. Joe Biden made this genocide. He protected it, sheltered the genociders from intervention. Gave them all the guns and money in the world.

It's an imaginary "I told you so". The people you ranted at before the election were not the Palestinian Americans who refused to vote for Harris. They weren't on Lemmy. I still agree with them. I wouldn't vote for someone who was committing acts of genocide against my family, either. Harm reduction means nothing if my whole family is dead. It means nothing if my culture is gone.

The American government don't give a shit about Palestine. None of them. Republicans, democrats, united in their support of Israel. Palestine is done. It's been done. It's a smoldering pile of ruins full of starving orphan children and IDF soldiers taking pot shots at them for fun. They're murdering journalists and doctors on a daily basis. The damage is so widespread, so thorough that it is incomparable. Whole cities gone. Fully dissapeared. This is present day. This is now. This is all with Biden in power.

No, there is no "I told you so." Kamala was not going to stop the genocide. She never once gave any suggestion that she would ever withhold support of Israel. She said many times that she would always support Israel no matter what. This is an all American genocide. Republican and Democrat ruling factions are both unequivocally in support of it. You're not paying attention if you genuinely believe otherwise.

Okay, yeah, your framing at the end there makes sense. I'm not sure how or why our conversation came about that specifically, but yes Chinese citizens are essentially sequestered on Douyin. I don't know that they are unable to install TikTok, but I kind of assume so.

I still think the framing of two tiered is an odd way to put it but I at least understand what it is you're trying to say.

You can imagine my confusion on what I thought was a pretty innocuous comment touching on something most people don't know much about that I actually do and was met with some pretty intense responses from you lol.

I'm not making anything about me I'm just responding to this general skepticism about the intention of my statements. If I read your comment incorrectly then I'm sorry. I'm also not in the business of acting like this is a discussion that matters to anyone beyond you and me, this isn't groundbreaking political commentary that people are anxiously watching play out. Acknowledging the fact that we've spoken many times before is I think worthwhile within that context.

Tiers implies one is above the other somehow. But they aren't they're two distinct systems. I'm going to loop back to what I initially commented about which was the app itself and how it doesn't function the way the commenter I responded to described it. Why would someone lie about how an app functions? Why specifically douyin, why specifically a Chinese social media app? It's worth examining that decision and the ideas that it fosters about China.

I don't know what it's going to take for people to truly acknowledge that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were never progressives to begin with. So much time and energy has been spent trying to convince trans people that they're good and they would protect our rights and they care about our well-being and want to protect us.

But here he is signing a literal anti-lgbt rights bill as one of his final actions in office. Why isn't he making a last ditch concerted push to safeguard trans rights? He could do that you know he's the president he could be trying to do something right now to help us. But even so he isn't. He truly never did care about trans rights.

I just don't see this in particular as a two tiered system. Chinese citizens don't use TikTok content is copied over from that platform by other people. Douyin connects with a bunch of the other social media systems created in China, it's exclusively in Chinese and is made for Chinese citizens. TikTok is usable, essentially anywhere else in the world. Douyin is usable in China specifically. You can use it outside of China you just cannot comment or post.

I don't know I'm just under no particularly obsessive illusions about China. Yeah they definitely censor their citizens in intrusive and oppressive ways and that's wrong and bad. So does nearly every single nation on earth. Why would my beef with China specifically, as opposed to American social media which spans the globe and is constantly flooded with western neoliberal propaganda?

Like it's just silly and frustrating the way so much fear and discussions is directed towards China specifically. Like to a wild extent like anything done by China anything Chinese must be nefarious in some way. Fear mongering around TikTok is just. Weird. The same reaction doesn't exist towards reels even though reels censors even more subjects than TikTok does.

And you know me too, we've talked many times we're definitely not strangers haha. We've been on the same and on opposite sides of at least a dozen discussions on Lemmy before. You can have some small measure of faith that I'm not a tankie here to act like authoritarian oppression is good actually.

Pretty uncommonly, since you need a valid Chinese phone number to make a douyin account. A few english speakers living outside china get posted there, but English isn't a super common language in mainland China. It's there of course but not widespread enough for it to be much of a market for it. Not to mention America and China are culturally quite a ways apart and I'd imagine western content wouldn't see widespread popularity there.

Douyin content is very similar to TikTok content. There are many popular douyin creators whose content gets copied to TikTok. There's loads of makeup, cosplay, cooking, skit, DIY, etc. Mukbang style content is very popular there as well. Their makeup and fashion content, like on TikTok, is sponsored by huge international brands like Mac and Gucci and others along those lines. Also super popular is pet content, like people who run cat shelters and dog walkers and stuff. There is also no age verification to use the app unless you want to post or comment yourself, and there is no time limit to use it. Some TikTok creators get reposted to douyin as well, but the overwhelming majority of people in china do not speak English, and to post on it, you need to be a citizen of China. Not that there aren't ways around it, but it's harder than it's worth.

I get that you're paranoid about Chinese international political interference, rightfully so in some ways. But this is just blatant lies and fear mongering. I've used the app extensively myself to follow some makeup content creators from China. It's functionally identical to TikTok. Censorship does exist, but it's based around specific events, mostly from what i can tell. I don't use to find political content, but I wouldn't be surprised if they censored content based on stuff like the Honk Kong protests. Propaganda is also on there, most likely, but I never encounter it in my feed.

Also, have to do the obvious and point out that the IDF has been armed to the teeth and already exterminating the population of Gaza for over a year now. They shot 5 journalists and 5 doctors yesterday. The homeland of the Palestinians is all but entirely destroyed, comparable to damage on the scale of nuclear weapons. Their homes are gone. Their land is stolen. They are starving to death in droves. The rest are being rounded up and shot en mass. The current administration is arming the IDF, funding the IDF, and preventing the world from intervening to save Palestine.

Male and Female are still normative exclusionary categories that describe trends within physiology and not hard rules or limits. Sex is not a golden rule. It is a human created category in the same way gender is.

If you want to talk about specific anatomy there is no reason why you can't talk about the anatomy you're referring to.

I would also point out that referring to trans women as male woman is very derogatory and is functionally the same as calling us heshes or shemales.

Liberalism is a conservative ideology, yes. It's the ideology of capitalism and western imperialism.

Leftism is the political realm of anti-capitalists. In a political dichotomy, liberalism stands on the right with other capitalist ideologies. Leftists stand opposed to them both. Liberalism is the ideology of billionaires, of strike breaking, of economic prosperity for the wealthy being the measuring stick of how successful a society is.

One of the core tenants of neoliberal education is that violence is always wrong, it's never the answer, etc. They repeat it so often and in so many places because it's at obvious odds with the state. They use violence against us so often and on such wide scales that their only option is to convince that it's not violence.

Over producing with limited resources is violence. Throwing away food while people starve is violence. Leaving buildings empty while people die of the cold on the street is violence. Preventing the sick and dying from accessing healthcare is violence. Evicting people from their homes is violence. Depriving the chronically ill and physically disabled of the means of survival because they can't generate capital for capitalists is violence. Climate change is violence.

The truth is that they deeply fear what we would do if we actually recognized all those things as violence. They do literally everything in their power to prevent us from achieving class consciousness. They have infected literally every single facet of society in an effort to keep us from seeing each other as human.

Doesn't NY not even have the death penalty?? And over a grievance killing? Theres absolutely no way they get a death penalty verdict. If they force a death penalty on him there will be actual riots. They didn't even give the Buffalo mass shooting perp a death penalty. He murdered 10 black people in a supermarket in a targeted mass shooting based on hate and he gets to rot in a cell the rest of his life. This is an outrage, a complete mockery of justice.

Imagine if all the billions of dollars sunk into policing went to homeless shelters, healthcare and universal basic income. Instead of, you know. It being used to commit acts of violence against mothers going into labor.

I support him in so far as he is leagues more socialist than the vast majority of his peers in the democratic party. But ultimately, yeah, he's not likely to support a total overthrow of the capitalist institution in America. I think he'd rather America more closely resemble the Scandinavian countries politically. Honestly, I think opposing him in achieving that is kind of foolish. It would objectively improve the lives of hundreds of millions of people. It would be a path forward, and in many ways, it is a foreseeable path, one that I don't think is impossible.

I'd also support a general strike and an outright revolutionary uprising, though. Capitalism is and has always been the problem. Doing away with it in its entirety is the right thing to do. Human life shouldn't be for profit. The fruits of production should be shared fairly among all. The progress achieved by science and engineering should be a collective boon for all of humanity.

I can't even comprehend that I'm really reading headlines like this. While the US government cheers from the sidelines. It's unbelievable. Surreal. This is mass murder, massacre after massacre. This is complete and utter destruction. This is what erasing a whole people looks like. Destroying their culture, their homes, their infrastructure, their heritage, their safety, their history, their children, their health, their bodies, their minds, their dignity. It just never ends.

I don't think they're going to stop. I think they have pushed so far and wrought such utter devastation that Gaza is done for. That the Palestinian people and homeland will be completely destroyed. Israel has its sights on even bigger goals now that the world is (miserably) trying to prevent escalating. Gaza will never see a ceasefire while the US exists. Not unless the Israelis suddenly show mercy, and they never have before.

Watching it for over a year has been a long nightmare that never ended. For families there, for children growing up surrounded by death disease devastation and disruption, the damage done is absolutely indescribable. Their are children who are the only living members of their families, who have lost their parents, every single cousin, every uncle, and every grandparent. Who just have no one left at all. And have the unimaginable weight of all the lives they saw cut short around them. There are 13 year old kids there who know they'll be murdered by Israel. They know because it is happening to everyone around them. It has been happening since they were born.
