This is just to try and combat single users voting more than once, but totally understand not turning it off.

I don't disagree, I think L4s has done a good job here and have thought it might be time to pull the plug for almost 2 weeks now.

My only worry is that it creates a gap in conversations (due to less posts here), which might slow or reverse some of the growth, but that would be inevitable no matter when we decide to do it.

That's why I think @PopBobert@lemmy.world's poll is a good idea, if the community thinks it's time then let's do it.

That's fair, my bot posts once an hour and checks it's own previous posts. That is actually something I did not write, but pulled from github.

I wrote something in Python for videos that I can convert to the tech community, that one does check all community posts and won't repost.

Yeah it's a bit of a catch 22.

I'm also a bit bias on the subject, as I run @L4s@lemmy.world here, but will take it down if we feel it's necessary.

Just wanted to let you know incase you are not aware, you can uncheck "show bot accounts" under settings, as long as the bot is marked appropriately you will no longer see bot posts.

We are listening to the input here, and will have a discussion around the topic.

Such as the most populated, most active, or most secluded if that's what you like. It's a good thing OP, we are not locked down to one community in the event that one goes crazy.

100% agree, no way it'll be $40k. Still crazy that as of 2021 there were 1.5M orders, which means they've been holding and most likely making interest on $150,000,000+

They've gotten so much money for the Cyber Truck "orders" without even delivering a product to the customers for yeaaarrs. How is that legal?

Sorry, took me longer than expected to get to this. Ran one test so far (don't want to spam) and it successfully put the title in the "body" of the post - let me know if it gives you issues please

Yes. If you keep reading, I acknowledge that. A bot is a bot, mine is no exception.

Yeah, I believe that's due to a Lemmy title character limit. Would it suffice for me to include the full title in the body of the post?

The only other thing I can think of is trying to have the title cut off at a "." or change the last "," of the title to "." if it exceeds the limit, or if neither exists but it exceeds just not post the article. But that might cause interesting articles to not be posted, which I think is less desirable - and might make some weird titles like "Today, in New Hampshire." instead of "Today, in New Hampshire, we looked at Lemmy and it was unbelievably awesome beyond what we thought it would be."

Open to suggestions there, as I agree the "..." posts are not as easy to understand without clicking.

I've disallowed viewing bot accounts since day one, mostly to avoid inane joke response bots as they were so prevalent on reddit.

I did the same thing for the same reason, and was my initial reasoning for not marking L4s. When I read "bots" my initial thought was the useless pun bots, or autocorrect bots, etc.

My plan to make mine different was if someone didn't receive a comment back on a less visible post, to comment back on L3s to keep conversations going, as the communities I've focused on are ones I enjoyed on [website we don't name] and genuinely enjoyed engaging there. I did that semi-successfully, but didn't consider that the majority of people wouldn't want to even see a content bot, and that was my mistake.

Pride put to the side, lesson learned and hopefully L4s can continue to help.

I agree, and have realized it's there for this reason. The bot button is checked on L4s.

In the comment above I was getting frustrated, as I'm doing something to try and help in my spare time and felt the work I've put in was being diminished. I let that get the best of me, and I shouldn't have.

Since this seems to be more problematic than I thought it was, I've enabled the bot button while we wait for a response. It will probably remain on regardless of what the admins say here, but I'd still like their input.

To everyone who has an issue with it; I apologize, my intentions are not malicious. I am only trying to help grow Lemmy.World and jump-start its communities.

Edit: I've realized that others don't want to see content bots either, and will leave the button enabled.
