  • Every bloody third advert on TV in Australia is a gambling ad, it's insane that we continue to allow it given how much of an actual widespread problem it is here. They have fairly lame government mandated warnings after each one but I doubt they do much at all.

  • Australia had some real dipshits in charge of it before the current government came into power. Why you'd deliberately and unnecessarily piss off your biggest trading partner to score a couple of brownies points with Trump who's laughing at you behind your back anyway blows my mind.

  • You can get the scripts and use them directly. See https://www.idrive.com/readme for details. You don't need Distrobox or anything else.

I have this working on Fedora no problems. Also their customer service is fully supportive and able to answer questions regarding Linux if you need help too, they may even alter the scripts for you if it isn't working on Nixos if you ask nicely.

  • I use a service called iCloud which has both cloud storage and local backup support built into it. Not free or open source but no cloud platform fully is. It's also really cheap for students.

  • The ship has sailed on nuclear tech being worthwhile now if you haven't already committed to it and are well underway. Instead, renewables offer a cheaper, safer and much faster return on investment while being ultimately better for the environment. It'll take much more than what is offered by gen IV for that to change.

  • Nuclear power takes a long ass time to build which is one of the many downsides of it.

  • Slovenia isn't a landlocked country and has all the same options that others do.

  • Renewables are better for the environment though.

  • Why?

Renewables are cheaper, faster to deliver and better over all for the environment. There's every reason to believe this will just be a money sink that may not even see the light of day eventually.

  • I miss the days of Ubuntu being a new upstart and Mark Shuttleworth going into space and being cool. I was involved with the project a bunch back then and even talked to him briefly once online.

There's been a lot of poor decisions honestly since then unfortunately and I haven't used Ubuntu in a while.

  • I think you have it and I hope the memes get better soon 😆

  • It's pronounced "rodes island"?

Explain it to me like I'm not an American.

  • It's a game, do whatever you want. Every achievement is already solved and completed by hundreds of people before you at least so it's not really that special for you to figure it out on your own anyway.

  • Assuming you get your IP address from a DHCP server such as your router, you should change what DNS server is set there and then restart any devices you are trying to use with the PiHole.

You can just restart the network service on your Fedora PC or reboot it.

  • Wikipedia isn't some magical concensus platform, it's just a website with admins and power users like anything else. I wouldn't take Lemmy or Reddit at face value and you shouldn't take Wikipedia at face value either for the same reasons. It's not neutral at all and feelings, biases and personal beliefs are all over the website because the people with power keep it that way.

  • Oh I didn't mean to insinuate that you didn't, I was just trying to support what you said with more context too.

This has been a huge propaganda campaign and it's disgusting.

  • For all those people saying to not use Manjaro if you want an alternative that just works try Mint or Fedora. Arch is great but requires a lot more work that you might not be interested in.

  • This sort of content is also not good for folks with PTSD either. Personally, I have to spend quite a bit of effort avoiding it if I want to continue to consume online content when things flare up in the world.

  • I don't see how. We've already officially said sorry as a nation and have strong native title rights and laws were indigionous people can claim their ancestral lands, own them and live on them as traditional as they would like to.

Indigenous communities are still alive and well in many parts of Australia and can freely make the choice to assimilate with western culture or not. Australia is a huge and sparsely populated place that does not force this on indigionous people at all.

At some point the indigenous community needs to stop considering themselves victims and focus on the future of their people and culture. What is generally amusing is that it tends to be inner city privileged indigenous people who tend to make the most noise about this.
