  • The only thing I care about in this is if they will contribute anything back to the open source ecosystem, be it code or anything else.

  • It's not like the profession has been treating them with any more respect anyway.

  • Aaaaaand it's over

  • I'm more concerned about that man bun tbh.

  • I was into "cool techy nerd thing before it was used to fleece people" thing. When scammers started ripping people off with it we referred to them as shitcoins and a Bitcoin was worth basically nothing.

  • I know exactly what Monaro is and you're not looking at it objectively but as a holder and fan. But that's okay I guess, as long as you're not involved in the scams and just like it for what it is. However, you sound a lot like someone preaching about some religion to others and you should be aware of that.

  • I get it but I also see it as a feature too.

  • I used to be an old school supporter of cryptocurrency too, until that is when the scammers got their mitts into it and it went from a funny little technical hobby worth nothing to an overinflated shitfight that's robbed many people of their life savings.

Honestly, the entire cryptocurrency ecosystem is a parody of its former self and nothing the original inventors of it wanted it to become.

  • I'm not missing anything having experienced it both in the original time and now. People mostly no longer play it for the fun of it at end game, they have to "make everything worth their time" because the experience itself isn't enough for them anymore.

That makes it a very different overall experience to play and not the same game at all. It's very toxic in fact like a lot of modern multiplayer games can be these days unfortunately.

  • Okay then show the ads to the majority of people who accept them by not running any blockers and leave me alone.

  • Homeless exist to remind the rest of the serfs that they better go back to the coal mine or they'll end up just like them.

  • If the server allows wow tokens then no, the wow op knew doesn't exist anymore. Wow tokens killed guilds and much of the end point of it.

  • I was playing Wrath Classic when it came but the wow token and GDKPs absolutely killed the experience. Wow itself has had some good changes and announcements lately, it might be worth revisiting that a little to see if you might be interested again.

Another option is Hardcore, which does somewhat feel interesting and old school again.

  • LOTRO would absolutely be my jam but the server performance is absolutely horrendous and the UI desperately needs at least an update for its fonts. It's a real shame.

  • Kinda reminds me of the same argument to why businesses can't find employees, they aren't able to exploit them enough.

  • Indeed, but the gap has definitely and noticeably accelerated between them in the last few years. It's a problem caused by greed ultimately.

  • That boot leather is addictive for some. They raise them as far as the market will allow constantly. In the last few years they've been testing the hell out of it.

  • The same where I live applies to electricity and water. The governments of the past sold them off to the public to raise revenue for election promises and ever since the prices of their services have skyrocketed.

Electricity in particular is a complete scam as they set up a market of private resellers that provide the illusion of competition but they're all around the same price as they all buy their electricity from the same single wholesaler.

We even let companies extract our gas and then sell it back to us at international market rates. My country is dumb.

  • There's definitely been more aggressive price raising since COVID started since I think businesses discovered that they can push it a lot further than before.
