Ah well.
At least task manager still puts a bullet to its head if I want it to 🔫
I just want windows to go away.
I hope steam OS can somehow take Linux gaming mainstream to the point that we get proper native game releases.
I just want my operating system:
- To have a logical settings layout, perform well, be stable
- Be fully and easily compatible with most mainstream programs and games without having to screw around too much.
Give me back windows 7, add dx12 support, update the back end with any kernel and scheduler updates, call it windows gamer edition. Then fuck off out of my life Microsoft.
Nobody wants to “use an operating system” we want to run programs and do it efficiently, i feel the vast majority of changes Microsoft has made since windows 7 ended has been to the detriment of that.
I can only hope that now with Vulcan becoming more popular and the rise of steam os on the steam deck that we will start to see native Linux aaa games being a thing.
Almost 40% of most democratic country’s populations would probably agree with most dumb and provocative ideas presented in a poll… especially now days with how partisan everything has become.
That said the Australia/ USA alliance is more important than any particular administration or head of government either our Australian government or the US government.
It’s an alliance of enormous mutual benefit that frankly is not going anywhere.
Australia is an enormous unsinkable aircraft carrier rich in resources, far enough from potential adversaries in the region to provide extremely strong defence in depth in the region. We use common platforms and tactics in battle, and have extensive integrated combat experience.
Perhaps even more important than any of that, it would be politically unacceptable I believe to our populations to turn our back on each other at this point, so many of us have personal friends and family in each other’s country.
We might occasionally have disagreements like any family does, and we might not like everything about each other but that’s how it goes with family. Any other country trying some shit I feel will find out fast that our alliance is stronger than it has ever been.
The US, UK and Australia have a bond forged in the fire of conflict and quenched in blood, anyone who wants to try and fuck with one should probably be ready for a fight with all… not to be overly dramatic.
If games apply it in context as an immersive effect I’m ok with it if it’s not over done.
Like when I’m looking down a scope or something, or through binoculars.
Games that apply it as a full screen effect I turn it off immediately.
The game I have found that pushes power use the hardest for testing real world cooling and power on video cards, is Metro exodus enhanced. (Awesome game also which is worth the bug anyway)
It consistently uses nearly 80-100w more than anything else I have seen.
Pushed my modded and watercooled 3090 to 600w at which point the power limit I set there held it. Even at 600w it’s power limiting down nearly 80mhz below normal full load clocks.
If the card pulls more than 300w I personally wouldn’t be using a daisy chain.
You will probably still be fine on a card with three plugs across two cables.
It’s worse on cards with two plugs, like some of the 3090 and 3080 cards. That use 400+ w of power.
Wait… a pixel with screen issues
Where have I seen this before.
Please as much as your power supply allows you to do so, do NOT daisy chain them on a high end modern GPU.
Use dedicated cables from the power supply for each of the 8 pins where ever possible even if it means a little more cable clutter.
Also not to scare you or whatever but I would personally avoid using a gigabyte power supply if you can at all avoid it.

Power supplies are the heart of your computer, while I understand it can be a sad thing to have to spend good money on, potentially limiting the amount you have to spend on more fun parts like cpus and gpus. It really is worth it in the long run. A good power supply will usually get me through 3 seperate builds and still be under warranty for the start of the third one.
I’d recommend something from be-quiet or from superflower as good options that are fairly affordable at least in my market tho mileage might vary.
Other good choices are Seasonic, and the upper mid range and higher Corsair (HX and up)
Remember when CPU’s / GPU’s had clockspeeds that didn’t include “up to”
I understand why it’s better net performance doing it this way and better uses the whole potential performance of the chip.
That still doesn’t make me like it, not because of the technical reasons, but because of the way they twist the marketing, it could hit 6ghz for 1 microsecond and they could still claim #nowupto6ghz!
I am much, much more likely to be willing to pay for Ublock than I am YouTube.
I don’t think so…
This might apply if they were not going to just level the place.
This will probably be more “shock and awe” combined arms level the place and anyone in it with the orders being that in 24h time anyone left there is to be considered an enemy combatant.
I don’t agree with killing civilians like that but that’s what’s going to happen. Because right now they feel they have the geopolitical cover to just go in like a steamroller and flatten everything.
Oh man, look I don’t want to get into picking sides or whatever and it’s extremely cold hearted to look at is so frankly… but.
Israel is going to completely annex all of Palestine by force and fully occupy them even more than before…
They are already fully mobilising everything and looking steamroll anything that can’t get out of the way or that stands and fights.
The general vibe I’m seeing is they will do their best to straight up crush everything once and for all, while they feel they have the geo political cover to probably get away with it.
So many people are going to die.
it’s a thing.
Yes I hate it.
I think it can be disabled in bios.
Everything is probably fine.
It has also come out that there is a bug in the instagram app from what I’ve been reading.
This is causing a drastic increase in temperature and battery use on all iOS devices running ios17.
This could very well just be some app code bug that is caught in a processing loop.
It also explains why some people are seeing this and others are not, as not everyone is sitting on instagram while their phone is on charge.
After several hours of unventilated and insulated continuous unmoving and firm contact… definitely at risk of first degree burns here.
This is just to get clicks.
It’s not “overheating” either though is it?
46c is not that hot at all, that’s like half as hot as a cup of coffee.
It’s probably not ideal.. but also not at all new and about the same as my S22 ultra hits under load or when charging which runs far cooler than my previous pixel 7 which would actively overheat if you tried to run maps while charging it on a warm day, to the point it would force the screen to min brightness after about 30min.
46c… lmfao what a stupid headline.
That is absolutely NOT “hot”or “overheating” for a piece of tech under stress.
The phone housing is the heat sync, and the phone is more powerful than many people’s few year old laptops.
Not to defend apple but this is just trying to sensationalise and farm clicks, my pixel 7 used to get way hotter doing just normal tasks to the point I was getting overheat warnings and the screen would shut off.
Now if it was more like 55c I could see that being an issue at least from a comfort standpoint.
On top of this, pointing a thermal camera as an emissive surface like glass… not the most accurate way to actually get a temperature reading, they should have used a thermal couple… but I’m guessing that would have showed an even less exciting click bait number.
In diplomatic speak, this is actually very strong language.
As an example one of the most extreme diplomatic phrases would be “x country has committed an unfriendly act”
Where do you think the saying “diplomatically speaking” comes from?
When the words you say can end in people dying or economic ruin, it makes you somewhat strongly consider exactly which words you should say.
In order to avoid… more aggressive negotiations from occurring.
The fact that their statement is clearly committing them to removing the barrier is strong language especially with the military power imbalance between the Phillipines and China.
China in the South China Sea is a bit like a 4 year old seeing what they can get away with.
Don't blame me...
I want to give people a chance but why would I hire someone fresh with no experience who won't except a starter wage because they think they are:
"qualified now and deserve a high pay"
Just because that's what the for profit, higher education system has told them, does not make it true.
If someone had instead spent those four years in the industry gaining some experience from a beginner role, plus went and got a few industry certifications, I would be much much more likely to hire them and at a higher wage.
That would show that they are capable of actually functioning In the role, and have a bit of knowledge about how the real industry works, and how to function in a real workplace.
Doing well at university while admirable often requires completely different skills to what you end up needing in your chosen field. You can't blame employers for knowing that and hiring accordingly.
I think nowadays the correct play is enter the industry you want to go into immediately out of school, at whatever basement level you can get in at, study part time to get the piece of paper while also getting real experience.
You will be far more capable (aka valuable) at the end of it.
Firstly it’s not a Max version.
Second, the Australian airforce and Boeing developed this plane together and have already had it in service for many years with fantastic success and reliability.
I believe the UK RAF also has some in service.
It’s been operated with many of our allies on joint operations and sometimes with observers as they all knew that their AWACS fleets were in pretty desperate need to be replaced and were accessing it.
It is by far the most capable platform of this type, and it’s a ready to go mature design that the countries looking to come on board have already been operating along side and supporting in real operations.
