Russia had some kind of chance during the wild 90s, before Putin and his fellow chekists retook all control. In some ways the West should've had a different approach to Russia during this period of time and in the early 00s. You should go defend people who actually deserve it. You don't commit suicide by car explosion if you at all consider other people's lives. Even if you're sure you're not physically harming anyone (which he wasn't) don't kill yourself in a way that'll traumatise witnesses.
