  • To give you some context on at least one downvote.

I have been homeless like proper homeless sleeping on a metal chair with a backpack outside my college for weeks using the gym to shower and working 3 jobs to afford the basic idea of the American dream of going to college and nothing else. I spent most of my childhood hungry as my incubator spent all money on her vices.

I ended up fleeing the country via a work program that basically made me an indentured servant for a few years while I tried to get my life together in a way where I didn't want it to end anymore.

You speak for a lot of people you don't know when you say sweeping statements about the audience to who you are talking to.
But also with that said I bet most of the down votes are still people who have not lived a life nearly that rough and think that renting is an equal level of poor and don't want to hear it.

  • People used to buy land and build a house on it and that was the inheritance. It could then be cut into smaller parcels and new homes built for the kids if they stayed close.
And of course if you were wealthy it was businesses and trust funds which still occurs a lot these days.

The middle class was partially stripped of its wealth by each generation giving less to the next

  • Yeah they should be allowed to burn everything they ever touched and take it with them when they go. Or maybe we even build giant stone triangles for them and put all their stuff in there with them.

Them getting to spend all the money scraped from the rest of the world and leaving a bleaker version behind us so justified. They put in all that effort and who cares about next generations anyways.

    Common phrase of course:
"Cut down all the trees you planted in life so that nobody but you can ever sit beneath it's shade."

  • My family tells me "write a book then I will read it" and I just keep thinking:
Assholes, maybe instead just listen to me when I tell my stories you want to ignore so badly.
They couldn't even be bothered to spend thousands on me though and more than once in my life I have just been dropped off at street corners with hopes that I would disappear from their lives.

It sucks. While I may not know you, I know similar pain and know it's never easy. I hope you find comforts in the little things around you.

  • Am I the weird one who just would take a hot glue gun or 3d printing pen and heat it up and slowly just roll it across the edges until the plastic becomes soft enough to push together?

Maybe I'm just trashy enough to not care that it's not the nicest looking afterwards.

  • Make sure to read the Tips in Bones Cafe if you pick it up. It felt like a lot of things clicked after that and it made my murders a little cleaner for the health inspector!

No tips for Kingdom 2 Crowns, really just hope you enjoy it. I sunk so many hours into that with others.

  • Another Crabs Treasure.

Oof. Wanted to love it. Wanted it to be SpongeBob like but with dark souls but timing is weird. The game is buggy. Fights don't feel satisfying and it's somehow too fast and too slow but people keep telling me to just turn on God mode and it will be fun... But then it's not a game it's a power trip.

I would skip it. I think it got hyped up the way that Stray did without being a great game just a great concept to talk about.

  • Bone's Cafe is a slower non roguelite cafe game were you get to kill and cook your customers. It has been lots of fun.

Kingdom 2 Crowns is a great little game of frustration but it's only 2 people but it's pretty and the soundtrack slaps and it's a fun settlement building and protection game.

Everyone is already recommending Hazelight Studio games but I will jump on that too cause they are amazing.

And just to shake things up:
The Lego games. They are classic and usually a good time. Campy humor. Murder your friends. And they are pretty cheap as the whole collections these days.

Edit: Oh and Ship of Fools was fun. Simple crowded bullet hell slapstick roguelite on a tiny ship with guns.

  • Puzzles.
And everything is a puzzle to a degree. I love to collect information in my head and use it to solve other things. I used to try to solve them for the cosmos or for the world but I didn't get paid very well to do that and I'd rather just solve little ones.

Be it literal puzzles, trivia, cooking is often a puzzle of balancing flavors and combining them in unique ways. Software and computers are just puzzles on finding how the functions work and solving through it until you find that part that doesn't solve right.

I make my own furniture pieces occasionally or garden. All of it is just puzzle solving for what my soil can grow, what do I need for the household or what can be done with the odds and end items I have left.

It's fun to repurpose items, fix broken things and build new stuff and I bet it's how lots of other people who can't focus on things feel as well. It's just another puzzle.

  • His origin story is that he bullied a kid so much for dead parents in his school that the kid eventually pushed Elon down the stairs and he swore to never be able to be picked on again.

He's always been a villain he was just charismatic enough and pretended to be the good guy until the mask broke and he went full villain to try and put the mask back up.

  • No it's a guy who wants to be king vs a guy who wants to hold the whip but both view themselves as heroes and the greatest gift to humanity.

One thinks his personality is what won him over and will keep all the support of his followers and one thinks he's the smartest person in the room and his correctness will show that he deserves all his followers.

It's cult leader narcissist vs cult leader narcissist. They don't even have to get to policy before the breakdown occurs.

  • Literally I see all the same names and sometimes still even saying the same things though mostly not cause there is other things to talk about.

You aren't seeing it cause you aren't engaging in hourly political threads because of an upcoming election. It's disingenuous to say the conversation has disappeared just because you aren't participating in it anymore.

  • You don't engage with the facts you don't like and only hold up the sources that prove your points. I pulled out facts about citizens self mutilating and you responded with an ad hominem claiming I was using a word that belonged to you rather than engage with the facts.
You blame others for what you are doing.

I have and others in here have been just pointing out other ways that China is not perfect but you ignore those and hold up the Harvard study you have as if it was a silver bullet to finally slay all the mean things people say about the country you apparently love, that won't love you back.

    I never claimed it's a perfect utopia,

I'm arguing against people saying that china isn't perfect

You are a hypocrite. We all are but you refuse to see it.

  • You do.

You go around saying anyone that disagrees with you, even on minor details, is a liberal and insisting that China is a fantastic Communist state. You are setting the bar on purity with no room for disagreement without with taking to insults and acting poorly.

The purity is that which you are insisting in others not even on the country. I have not even called you or anyone else in here a tankie once but you insist that I did so it okays you to "react" appropriately.

And how would a local business with a single employee be thinking they could better exploit themselves? Do you not see how you aren't even cooperating in the conversation? You barge in to shout a lot and see the discourse as productive even if it's just loud nonsense.

You don't even know that I have a 10 year work visa in China and have spent a generous amount of time over there, you have no knowledge of my detainment for giving out a VPN nor do you know about my detainment in Singapore for the same thing. There is nuance and more to the world than just one thing such as workers or economics on broad scale, but it's easier for you simplify for the sake of the fantasy you wish to have.

  • We dumb

    Jump
  • I have come to realize a PhD just means you have spent a lot of time thinking about what you are doing.

Doesn't mean what you are doing is smart really. Just well thought about.

  • He specifically doesn't want to hear anything that doesn't confirm his world view and in being loud about it it's getting him likes from his in-group which he thinks is all he needs and makes him superior.

You can see it in the way he responds to everyone with either the idea they fully agree with him or are deserving of indignation.

Wait till he finds out even his echo chamber doesn't pass the purity test and God forbid he ever fail it himself.

Also I swear the amount of small business owners I know in Singapore who agree they live there for a better life is wild if you know anything about the authoritarian lean of Singapore. Grass is always greener and all that.
