  • I wouldn't be surprised at all, I suspect that's what's happening on most social media platforms like Facebook, X, Reddit, and so on. You'll see completely crazy and extreme takes with tons of upvotes that no one you know irl would agree with.

  • As an American I block almost all political news content online except for my local news. I feel like that sort of content gets into everything online not just Lemmy, it's absolutely obnoxious.

  • Some time ago I wasted about 2 hours of time because of that damn brltty, wondering why the tf the arduino was not being detected until I followed dmesg. I was very upset at the time when I found out what brltty was. Like I get some people need that but if the user did not connect a braille display during install then the daemon should never be enabled or just uninstalls during os installation.

  • Yea sure, you can go and do all that. Im just speaking from my personal experience. There were no experiments, it's just the behavior I notice from Windows before the device gets the Linux treatment.

  • No I did not have GPU accel. I'm curious what you are referring to losing work due to a misclick? Personally I don't use desktop icons. I'm a previous i3 user so I am used to using my computer with a non traditional interface.

  • As someone who tried out MacOS in a VM out of curiosity I don't find gnome to be like MacOS at all in overall functionality. I think to most people it just looks like Mac because top bar, dock and some design choices. Really though gnome is much more like Android. MacOS felt extremely clunky to use vs gnome's fluid workspace and app switching.

  • Some of these things might just be the usual Windows problems...like with the heat and fan noise. I have seen huge differences in a few machines (x86 tablet/HP laptop/thinkpad) running Linux vs running Windows. The machines running Linux hardly make a peep until you play a game or compile something. On Windows they were hot and noisy af, night and day difference.

  • HP by chance? Had this happen to a 360 HP laptop (and I almost never used that functionality!), repaired by replacing the backside of screen where it screws in. This of course required disassembling the whole damn laptop. I was horrified by how cheap it was and now have a ThinkPad T480.
