  • Normally I would say that nobody deserves to be hacked. But now my perception of the situation has changed.

If viewed like a bank and my data is the money in it, then what's happening mostly is that my money gets stolen. After getting found out the bank says "We're sorry ;)"; the bank might even get insurance money, while I get multiple attempts at accessing my accounts at other services.

Now I would like to see this gross negligence punished. Preferably by a 4x2 to the head. Or cat-o-ninetails.

  • Before any of that: Let her try it out on your machine (assuming it can be used for this kind of workload) during business hours. She will run into problems (Software not working, something upstream at her workplace not working, ...). If all of those are fixed or she deems them negligible, then you can start thinking of switching her over.

This can take over a year of time, depending on how frequent some work related tasks are.

Dualboot on the new machine can also be good alternative, if you don't mind spending the money.

A "do or die" approach might lead to a very big fight about her not being important to you, or even respected by you, among other things.

  • Oh, I still use Teamspeak! It's very nice for small groups up to 32 people (after that one has to use the paid tiers). I do not use X though.

Maybe I'll give Mumble a shot, so I can integrate it with Matrix/Synapse/Element.

  • They already are throwing punches because they noticed people being less gullible than them. I'm guessing this would result in a "double down", like "The developers wouldn't have to kill this game if the pirates would have bought it."

  • It means pretty much that, I would say. The reasoning is that in the case of a conflict you have to solve it by involving police and advocacies ( I think this is the right word ). The senate is only involved in setting the ground rules for the conflict in front of a judge.

Of course, there is stuff like self defense (so one is not completely defenseless), but anything like revenge is heavily pursued.

  • My point was that there is some institution on your site of that standoff. This will not be the case if you have to fight against your own government. So it's better to have to fight a foreign government, rather than one's own.

TikTok is a dangerous influence, yes. I wasn't trying to argue against that. But then, so are Facebook, YouTube, Reddit, Twitter and similar social media. Maybe even all social media.

Other than fighting with shortsighted regulations I don't know how one would fight such an influence other than widespread education of the people. But that would make them more resilient against any propaganda.

  • Yes, my point is in this scenario there is a heavy hitter (government) on your site, which makes it a better sutuation than to let your government just prey on you.

Although I would put this under the "try to" category. In my opinion it's way better to regulate methods rather than names. Then again I would not know how to implement this thought in this scenario.
