  • A great example of the below 50% situation is the picture of the avocado and the tomato. I was confident that that was AI generated because I was pretty sure I'd seen that specific picture used as an example of how good Dall-E 3 was at normal text. However, most people who had used other models were probably used to butchered text and expected that one to be real.

If they did this quiz again with only pictures that were sketches, I bet the standard deviation would be much smaller.

  • The number of easy and hard pictures was roughly equal, which brings the mean and median values close to 10/20.

This is true if "hard" means "it's trying to get you to make the wrong answer" as opposed to "it's so hard to tell, so I'm just going to guess."

  • There's also the added bonus for OP that the father/daughter storyline is the heart of both movies. This is also true for the other movie I was going to recommend, A Wrinkle in Time, but compared to the other movies OP listed it might seem too kid-oriented.

  • I think my favorite is probably Contact. It's an older movie, but it's really interesting. The lead character and the general story made me really interested in science as a kid.

If you want a newer movie, Interstellar seems somewhat similar to Contact and is an excellent movie.

Also, thanks for looking for content that your kid would enjoy. You seem like a good parent.

  • Lemmy.world is the first one I joined. I think everyone should have an alt on a well-maintained, large instance. A while back, lemmy.world was having downtime, so I made an account on a small instance. That instance went down weeks ago and never came back.

  • Of course, but if my vehicle was the only vehicle in the world, I'd still feel like a 2 year old kid on the back of my bike going 7 miles is more dangerous than on a bus, train, or even a car over the same distance.

  • EVs

    Jump
  • I bet those people are doing it for economic reasons, not environmental ones. A bicycle is probably the most dangerous form of transportation for you to have your kid on.

  • Depends on the use case and the oversight. If I lose the ability to walk and an implant can make it easier I'll take the implant. It's unfortunate this type of technology didn't exist for Hawking. With what he had he could only write a sentence a minute IIRC.

  • Cheap is fine. I don't use wired headphones as much, but I'd rather they break than whatever they're connected to. I'd have a bunch of devices with ruined ports if my headphones had been stronger. Best option would be if they just disconnected from the port, but that's less likely if the cable is orthogonal to the jack when I'm about to break it.

Back in the day, I thought Apple revolutionized with magnetic charging cables, but I never really saw that get widespread mass usage.
