Isn't this largely on stores to change their prices? It's not like they'd still be selling things at $0.99 and charging you $1.00, they'd just change their advertised prices to be rounded up to the nearest $0.05.
That said, you're probably right in that he can't just do it.
Whenever I get pennies (or any change less than a quarter, really, and only then because quarters are useful for vending machines), it goes into the 'Take a penny, leave a penny' cup or a tip jar anyway. I use cash rarely enough as it is and I hate having change in my pocket.
I mean, this is actually valid. Pennies cost more than a penny to make. I don't think anyone likes pennies. I wish we'd done this a long time ago; it's not the first time it's been discussed. First thing I've heard of Trump wanting to do that didn't piss me off, to be honest.
If he's willing to weaponize the pardon power (which we already know he is), there's no current way to stop him at all. Anything he does is protected by the 'presidential act' ruling, which is untested, but anything his lackeys do can just be pardoned, even pre-emptively before charges are brought. Since the pardon power is absolute and has no oversight, this would, as far as I can tell, stonewall any attempt to stop them unless that attempt is by literally barring the doors as they try to enter. The system was not designed to stand up to a bad actor of this magnitude; the recourse would be an impeachment but that's not happening unless he oversteps so massively that his own party turns on him.
This is a great example of survivorship bias! Someone surviving those types of events is a very rare occurrence, so when it happens, it's noteworthy and the word gets around. You don't hear about all of the times those things happen and the person doesn't survive (or at least, you don't hear about them as prevalently.) Similarly, when someone stumbles on a curb and survives, it's not news, but when someone stumbles and dies, it is!
No, see, when white people oppress black people, that's fine. When black people want to recoup some of what was taken, that's DEI. Gotta stamp that shit out.
Something like many Reddit subs do with the snoo, where they took a common, recognizable icon and customized it for their instance would have worked well if there was a similar icon for instances to latch onto, but we're past that point now.
You could break the handle on one of the Engagement Mugs and have two perfectly usable mugs. Similarly, the Uncomfortable Mug works just fine as long as you just hold it like you would a cup.
The champagne glasses could technically be used if you only filled one side of it, and only enough that it didn't tip over. Alternately, break the stems off and just don't set them down.
The fork on the other hand doesn't seem to have any practical use. I'd nix that.
There's a lot of things blue states produce that red states need. When Trump causes shortages in blue states, do you think they're going to ship what they have to the red states that want them?
California for example produces a massive percentage of the country's produce.
It's fucking embarrassing to be from the US at this point. I hope that if we eventually get our shit together and elect someone competent, that the rest of the world forgives us for this shit and lets us back into their good graces, but at this point, if you all tell us to go fuck ourselves, I won't blame you at all.
I really hope you do. I hope everyone does, when Trump starts flexing at them. We (Americans) deserve every bit of hardship we get from this situation.
If oil imports are taxed, it could raise costs for businesses and consumers, potentially contradicting Trump’s pledge to reduce living expenses.
Does anyone honestly think Trump meant anything he said while he was campaigning? It was obviously all just saying what people wanted to hear. He basically said as much himself. Pretending otherwise is just legitimizing lies and propaganda.
I did computer repair for quite a few years after high school, then worked in IT at a game company, and currently work in the software testing industry, so... yes! Hah
Lan parties were basically the highlight of my highschool career. I learned how to set up and configure complex networks just so I could be 'that guy' that knew how to fix problems at lan parties. Sitting in someone's garage all night with 12-16 sweaty, sleep deprived people playing Counterstrike or Unreal Tournament or Worms Armageddon was the absolute pinnacle of good times in a rural small town.
Gee, whyever would he think that? Could it be because he's been breaking the law for years and years, and nobody's done anything about it? Because he staged a fucking coup, and the DoJ rolled over? That he's essentially been issuing open threats to anyone who opposes him, and everyone's capitulating? That he's openly accepting bribes and everyone's just opening their wallets? No, couldn't be any of those things.
I'm not suggesting anyone just do it cold turkey. I am suggesting, though, that they start re-tooling their economies to not rely on the US in it in whatever ways they're able; we're an unreliable partner, clearly, and anyone whose economy is reliant on us at this point is just asking to get burned or bent over by Trump.
I really hope every country the US trades with is looking at this and behind the scenes making whatever arrangements are available to them to cut the US out of their trade network, with the ultimate intent of just ceasing trade with the US entirely. It would be the best option. Trump is going to keep weaponizing economic power to get what he wants, and if other countries keep folding, it's just going to make him bolder. If they all just cut the US out, it'd hurt them, but it'd hurt the US and specifically Trump's influence a lot more in the long term.
