  • About 6 months ago, legislation was passed mandating tiktok be sold to an american company. Biden signed the legislation but declined to force the sale, Trump has continued to not enforce the sale while adding his dramatic flair and likely looking for kickbacks as well. Basically no one is willing to take the massive hit that would come from actually enforcing the ban.

  • Although it wasn’t actually Herzog who said it, that quote about americans waking up to the fact that 1/3 of the population wants to kill another third, while the other third watches feels mighty true. I think what really woke me up to that sentiment was back during the 2016 primaries when my sister, a middle of the road democrat, told me ‘but I like my health insurance from work’ when we were discussing medicare for all. She didn’t even have particularly good insurance at the time.

  • I canceled my recurring over this about a week ago, explaining that this was the reason. One of their people sent me a lengthy response that I appreciated. Still going to wait a year before I reinstate it, hopefully they fully move on from this idea by then. It sounded a lot like this though, kinda wishy washy.

  • I may be wrong, but I think you may have misinterpreted what the outcome here was. 12 republicans joined with all the democrats to vote to repeal the ban that was still on the books after being found unconstitutional back in 2003. So, a good thing, even if it is unlikely to make it further than that.

  • Funny, I go the opposite route. If a company does something to bother me enough, I will easily forego whatever experience they are providing. There is no lack of meaningful entertainment in this world, why further encourage shittiness when I can just enjoy something else? I do the same with prices. Too expensive? Fuck it, guess I don’t do that anymore. Here’s looking at you Phish; nothing against the band and understand their pricing, but I am not paying over $100 (especially now back w ticketmaster no less) for a concert. It doesn’t bother me if others do, it just becomes ‘not for me.’ Like everything, to each their own though.
