Who are these people working at "DOGE" anyway? Is it that fresh high school graduate kid? Are they still doing the "80 hour weeks" without pay?

I have a friend who works in veterinary emergency clinics, and it's always hilarious to hear his stories, because the CPR doesn't change on a cat/dog, but there are endless complaints about how different breeds are easier/harder because of their body shape.

I think it also has a factor of how well it blends with current/dominant society. You'd probably be able to find a large amount of folks who agree that the amish are a cult, for example. They've been around for a while, and they have relatively large numbers, but their rejection of modern technology flies in the face of the average modern person. If pressed on 'why?' those people considering them a cult likely have that unique quality behind the 'cult' reasoning.

Just off the top of my head, the snake handlers and the jehovah's witnesses are both considered cults in my social circle (as in, these topics have come up and are generally agreed on), despite both being large enough to be known in many areas and have been around for quite a while.

I usually see it abbreviated as GERD when I'm dealing with doctors' notes, medical forms, patient charts.

In this instance, we have an incompetent fool full of hatred at the top of the little hill of vile snakes. One incompetent fool who removed (or made leave, same difference in the end) the head of the agency that makes sure horror shows like this don't happen. That just makes it worse. To me, the right person is my neighbors, friends, or maybe family. If any politician more removed than the city council wanted to do or say something, I'd rightly think it's just them posturing. They can shut the fuck up and vote/pass some aid measures.

It's depressing how, in order to surpass how things are going now, the things I come up with are basically all from some semblance of dystopian horror stories.

It's all about who you can say it to. As much as elmo is probably trying to change it, right now the dystopian future of shadowrun hasn't appeared, and the various governments are still the big dogs in the pound. See brazil for a recent example. Even apple, famously trying to thwart regulations, has eventually caved to the EU on the charger issue, as another example.

They now stand outside places, like a university a few miles away from me, and have incredibly idiotic stands meant to take advantage of people going through hard times.

They do far more than that to be considered cultish. The elders of an area have a large degree of input on things like marriage, for instance, which goes hand in hand with men moving their new wives to areas far away from any family. Combine that with the typical cult emphasis on only socializing with people in the cult, and you've got a beautiful combination to keep women oppressed and without options. I've had to sit and listen to a poor woman come to terms with leaving everything, adult children included, behind and hope that her family would still help her after 30 years, because she had no other means of support. It was horrifying, because even the resources I was trying to pair her with wouldn't be enough to help.
