  • And what's their conclusion?

  • Do you think complexity and scope stayed the same? Or did it increase? Do people have to know more now to have the same level of depth and surrounding knowledge?

  • How do you reckon the design influences this? What do you think supposedly enabled that?

What specifically makes it a platform designed to be an echo chamber?

  • I don't know about a summer season, but the one that started earlier this year is shit. I strongly disliked it.

If there's a new summer season I assume it's a continuation of that.

  • Why should I know the amount of calories it has?

  • Did you reply to the wrong comment?

I was talking as a user or contributor.

  • and even forefox adopted the extension limitations of chrome?

You mean webextensions or webextensions v3? Because when it appeared they announced they'd support v3 but without the limitation.

  • but I still don’t think they are very trustworthy

    How so? Why is that?

  • Underrated or good? Because I have no idea how people on large perceive or rate ops/eds.

    • local filter for posts in communities you're not subscribed to
    • defederated and blocked - of the instance and from the instance
    • hosting, updating, performance, uptime, sustainability, risk of disappearance, security, responsiveness on issues
    • settings, UI, additional hosted tools
    • rules and focus for local communities

IMO there's nothing to keep in mind on everyday use. But these things are things to consider when deciding what to use in a mindful manner.

  • May be different between Windows Home and Professional editions.

  • You can change drive letters. So you could copy, then swap the drive letters between partitions.

But for the OS it's not so simple - at least for Windows. Specifically because of the Windows registry and hidden profile data and Windows activation.

By that point I'd consider a file copy, registry backup (for selective restore; but may not be worth it), and reinstall Windows on the new partition. Trying to clone-move in a working way is a hassle and error-prone. I'd consider ensuring getting the Windows license over much easier. (A documented workflow by Microsoft.)

Loss of registry means many things may have to be reinstalled and reactivated, but I'd still prefer that.

  • I wanted to use it because of some bad Win11 start menu/window bar changes. But I had other issues/deficiencies with Cairo. I worked a bit on it but ultimately didn't land or finish any of my changes, and haven't been using it.

It's certainly different and with various settings. Worth a look or try.

  • What are you missing from simple file copying?

  • I think what you're referring to is called shell in windows. Replacing the desktop interface.

Cairo is an open source, alternative shell. https://cairoshell.com/

  • We use gitlab at work.

If you're going for hosted, I'd always use github (userbase, UI, free features set). If you're self hosting, gitlab is a good alternative. Their heavy promotion of and focus on full chain into managed cloud can be irritating and annoying though.

Gitlab has a free tier too. If you're curious, try it out.

  • What makes you think we need a replacement soon?

  • I'd rather not have to register on every individuals instance for every project, for bug reporting, discussion, or simple changes.

On github it's easy for me to contribute and communicate. On other platforms, not.
