  • I don't think that's what happened, with Twitter at least.

Elon pissed off the wrong people at the SEC and FTC playing stupid pump and dump games with stocks by using Twitter and his absurdly undeserved reputation as an unconventional super genius with his mega group of followers.

One of the biggest of these, was pumping and then dumping twitter stock by alleging that he'd buy the company. And the people he'd pissed off in government basically saw their opportunity to fuck him by literally forcing him to buy it at his stupidly overpriced valuation - that's why he played all sorts of dumb games dragging out the purchase and trying to get out of it.

And so now he's stuck with an unprofitable company he didn't want. I'm pretty sure he's running it into the ground on purpose so he'll be able to carry that loss balance forward eternally, using it to get out of paying taxes by writing off the loss.

  • I get why some limits are necessary, a company doesn't want a Microsoft Tae repeat...but after Chat GPT was made available to the public, the rapid addition of a whole range of guardrails made it nearly immediately unusable.

You ask it about anything which is controversial in the slightest regard and it shuts down, which for me at least, removes any interest in using it.

  • I mean...it helps that the Switch launched out of cycle with Xbox and PlayStation, and also was $100+ cheaper than the others. Not to mention the advantage of it being portable. Which means someone in the household can play it without eating up a screen, or it can be brought on travel. Mine is indispensable on work trips. It also supports a variety of excellent local multiplayer games - which at least in my house, gets a shit load of use. Smash, Mariokart, Mario party, etc. are on constant rotation.

The PS5 digital is $400. The Xbox series X is $500. The Xbox series S which arguably does something similar to the switch, dropping the insistence on the highest graphical quality, is the only one in either this generation or the previous which compares in price, at $300. (Granted this is actually cheaper than the OLED Switch model, which is at $350).

I desperately wish Nintendo would release their IP on PC, but it'll be a cold day in hell before that happens.

  • The highschool teacher responsible for teaching me trig identities and log/e^x was going through a breakup with her girlfriend or some shit during those weeks. So instead of learning those things we did cross word puzzles and word finds.

Needless to say, integration was... difficult to learn. Because I got to give myself remedial math lessons at the same time, in the era before Kahn academy and helpful Indian YouTube videos.

  • An example of a thing which has been tried so many times, but which ultimately only increases complexity, expense, and rate of failure for very little gain.

"Ah yes, let us take one of the most finicky vehicular systems outside of the engine itself and make it literally twice as complex!"

And in return you get.... slightly reduced turning radius.

  • After the chapo subs got kicked from Reddit, they went over to hexbear and....the few years they spent in that isolation bubble haven't been great, it seems. A little too extremist for my tastes. Like I'm here to waste time and chill, not have academic arguments about why Stalin was actually great or whatever the fuck.

Like I'm a leftist, but fuck. I ended up just blocking the instance because I got tired of being shit on for any particular seemingly innocuous comment.
