  • Yeah, I mean you are perfectly able to say "I like modern Youtube." But I'm just nostalgic for when it wasn't oversaturated and there were global phenomena. Now there's so many special videos and memes for every group you pretty much can't keep up with it all so there's confusion when someone brings up something you're not a part of.

  • Try running two applications that require different versions of a package on linux. fun

Like Linux might be the best for choosing when to update, but everytime I've HAD to update, it's more because of a new hellish problem that I need to resolve, where as Windows/Apple works as expected.

Add to that the forced update on Windows are security updates. Linux doesn't force security updates which means if you're not keeping on top of it, your linux system has security issues that have hopefully been patched already, but you're not on the latest.

Also same reason I'm ok with Android not allowing roll back, but I DO fucking mind that my 64 gig phone had 10 gigs of System space... and now has 22 gigs of system space because of updates/bloat.

And that's also before I start talking about Python and assholes who don't use virtual enviroments, and requirement files... Sorry sorry, not technically linux specifically, but god damn that's a huge pet peeve.

And people still use python2!!!!!!. Ok I'll stop now,. But holy shit that bothers me.

  • I think you're missing what I'm bemoaning. It's not "Youtube doesn't work". It's "Good viral content no longer exists" When this video or Charlie bit my finger got popular it got popular OUTSIDE of people who were searching for it. People got exposure to something unique fresh and new that wasn't something they always clicked on.

Now it feels like everyone is in their little echo chamber in youtube, which is great, I get to see SBNation, NumberPhile, Tom Scott, and Your Movie Sucks... and don't see Mr. Beast or PewdiePie, because that's what I choose to view.

But nothing spreads "Virally" any more because youtube feels like they locked down what people see to what they 100 percent know people want to see with no chance.

A bigger different problem with this is what happens on twitter and sites like that, where it reinforces bad mentalities. If you only look at alt-right or progressive videos, you start to ONLY see those, and you aren't getting a wealth of different opinion, you basically get a singular view of the world, because that's what you want to see. It'd be fine, but people start to think "What I see on social media is representative of the entire world." And that's the first step on a bad path.

  • That's the thing, it's not viral if it's personalized. "Viral" expands far outside of the niche. You might not like videos of baby or slice of life videos, but Charlie bit my finger was everywhere. Almost no one wanted Rick Astley, but everyone saw it. Even this, I don't look up dance videos, but I Watched this whole thing. That's where "Viral" is.. The "this is popular even without being a fan of it."

Now it seems the only videos that do that is shitty drama or clickbait crap.

  • As someone said in the comments, they really don't make (promote) videos like this any more.

It's just a beautiful video, someone performed something on stage, the crowd clearly loved it. It required real talent, and wasn't just done to get Youtube views in a weekly/daily video posts trying only to drive engagement.

A shame that Youtube's best days are long behind it. Yes the beast is bigger than ever and has so many more people, but it's not quality rising to the top.

  • Part of me agrees, and part of me reverts to my "Stop adding shit I didn't ask for in my OS" especially if it doesn't work correctly and people just disable it. Though people will also talk while typing passwords sometimes and so this attack still works.

Not complaining about this idea, but more the fucking bloat that all software takes on, but Windows seems to really push to the limit.

  • I think my question is more "Does this only work on MacBook Pro" though now I wonder how much the angle the Mac Book is open will matter to the program, or if an external microphone will affect it (or completely throw it off).

Not trying to tear this down, but more understand the scope needed for this attack to work, or what could break this approach.

  • I thought this type of attack had been known and used for a while. Though in the previous styles I've seen it's usually required at least some understanding of the keyboard layout and preparations (hearing each key pressed previously) I don't know if they've jumped that gap, or made some rather huge assumptions. (The victim has the same keyboard as X or the victim has a known keyboard.)

Actually would be interesting to see laptops randomize their keys for passwords, though that would be hellish to type a known password on. I mostly do my password from touch memory.

  • Find better solutions. I found that grammarly results are similar to office. If you want to buy a product buying word versus renting grammarly would be a better choice.

There's multiple other websites that do the same as grammarly. But if you choose to go with a free option or low cost option this happens

  • I mean you've been using their service for free...

Listen I get people who but they have said they train their programs based on your responses for a while. If your not paying for these services then yeah they are going to monetize and improve the service off of what you do and includes ai.

Start paying for the services you use... And I don't mean simple ten or twelve dollar a month plans, which I'm betting she doesn't use either

People really have gotten used to the free lunch model...

  • Not bad, Devolver somehow makes me slightly interested in everything they put out. Admittedly I don't have time for that many new games, but who ever is doing marketing for Devolver has consistently kicked ass. The biggest loss from E3 (other than a way for the press to see the games that normally they'd miss out on all in one place) is Devolver's Press Conferences, they were always something to look forward to when I would just skip most of them.

Clever way to show off their line up, I'm a bit curious if these games actually slipped or if they were always intended to be 2024 games, and the presented as 2023 delayed.

  • I really liked the Nexus Line of Google phones and from what I've seen the Pixels are great phones, but the price puts them outside of what I want to pay.

The 3a, and the 6a might be the only ones I considered, but the rest are just "Flagship priced phones" and yeah they may have the hardware to back them up, but paying 600+ dollars for a phone is ridiculous. With them reaching for a thousand dollars is a hard no.

You basically hit on it. They're trying to make them into iPhones... people are on Android specifically because they don't want Apple prices, or that type of enviroment.

  • Jesus... if you beat yourself up this much over games, how do you deal with stuff that really matters. Do you moralize over the gas you buy? Do you consider the cable company who gives you the internet connection, when you have only one option? Do you freak out over every single piece of food you purchase, and the supermarket you buy it from, and the television you watch?

Or do you only wax endlessly on video games? Play what you want to, or don't, but you're putting way too much thought into this, and if that's what you want to do, you've made your choice, but then perhaps you need to stop buying almost all video games, and read up on crunch, because almost every video game is made at the expense of their employees, and their mental health.

    You do you.

As for me, I'll continue to support companies who I think make a good product, and not avoid stuff like Hogwarts Legacy, or Balder's Gate, because I realize the majority of the money I spend to pay for those games go to the developers who worked extremely hard to give fans something special. Because you won't hurt the big companies, but you definitely will destroy the developer and the company that made the game with that attitude.

  • Wait... You built a computer. Installed an OS on it, one of the easiest OSes to install... And now are having an issue installing steam... And somehow it's the OS' fault?

This is either fake, trying to pirate windows, or your trying to avoid responsibility for not being able to assemble a simple computer. Wtf?
