Try distrobox out. Install those one-time use apps, then when done, remove the distrobox container. You can even specify its own home directory when creating one with --home (or -H). All cleaned up then.

Pretty much sounds exactly like I was thinking of doing for the DIY. miniATX/ATX for all the expansion potential + SATA ports + large case to handle it + a CPU with 6 to 8 cores at least. Case would probably be a rack form factor but it doesn't really matter. Probably 32 GB of RAM + a Quadro GPU/Some cheap AMD GPU or something cheapish like that strictly for encoding + Proxmox + TrueNAS or perhaps just unraid. Probably no desktop environments unless something really needs it for some reason. Not sure if I'll go with a motherboard with an ILO/IPMI with its own NIC + vlan or not.

I was going to mix SSD/NVME for performance (if I mix these two, it'd be two separate performance tiers) and HDDs for capacity. Probably two 1+ Gbps NICs bonded and maybe a LACP port channel down the line. VPN with killswitch of course.

I could def. go cheaper on the hardware if I just wanted to use docker/podman mostly but I want VMs too. I'll probably manage updates and backups of what I really care about off network via ansible + rclone + restic repos. I might would use zram + lz4 for most of my VMs because why not.

If it's actual ownership instead of availability, then according to GOG's own EULA, you don't own the games there either.

I appreciate the advice! I am thinking of Synology or perhaps DIY with either TrueNAS (Scale likely) or Unraid. Synology would be cheap, small, easy on power and thermals too though and I've been looking at the latest and previous gen DS2XX lines.

Also I appreciate the Jellyfin mention. I've been using Plex so long and was thinking about something else like Jellyfin especially but I've never worked with it before.

This and the rising costs plus adding ads to 'basic' tiers and attempting to create limitations (resolutions, "screens", offline downloads) is what might push me to build a nice, large NAS. We don't want Cable again.

I'm not trying to convince you to come back but as for the rpm/flatpak/compiling thing, I recommend people run and I run distrobox containers to solve that. So, I have an Arch and Ubuntu distrobox container. You don't install them either, you just tell distrobox to download them and it runs them. You install the software with AUR/whatever and apt/whatever and then distrobox-export the app(s) from the container. Then it all runs like any other app from your launcher. You don't really have to know anything about how docker/podman works and runs. It takes care of it.

Studies previous to over a decade ago slammed whole milk, which is why it was removed in the first place. Only until the last 10 almost 15 years have studies shown correlation with whole milk actually fighting child obesity though no conclusions as the actual 'why' have yet been found. Theories in both the biggest meta-analysis study (in English anyway) and some of the latest theorize it may be an indicator of the parents diets that they provide to their kids or it could be that kids simply eat more without whole milk. One study in particular attempted to figure this out by weighting the parents' BMI's on a point scale but was unable to really pull a substantial conclusion from it. Take your example of Japan where I think we can agree without me finding any analytics on their diet that it is different enough nutritionally from the US that it is an important distinction, except for a fairly short teen fad, what 7 years ago? Maybe it was a couple of years longer ago.

But all of that is beside the point. What I was trying to show is the absurdity of Congress' oversight of nutrition in the school systems. The GOP pushed this forward strictly at the behest of diary lobbyist and in particular a Pennsylvania conglomerate. You set your brush type in ASCII/ANSI characters, set your size and color and then you paint using something like PabloDraw.

Think of opening something like paint, selecting the brush tool and a color and then painting shapes. Well, they do the same but instead of a solid or gradient brush color, the do the same except the brush uses character sets that you can select.

Context of the arrest:

911 call because McClain was wearing a ski mask and flailing arms, though caller noted he didn't think McClain was armed nor anyone in immediate danger.
McClain wore a ski mask due to a blood circulation issue that caused him to easily feel chilly.
Friends believe he was 'flailing his arms' because he was probably dancing to music.
McClain was near his house.

The arrest of McClain:

Officers slammed McClain into a wall when they apprehended him
Officers claimed to hear another shout "He is going for your gun!"
Later accounts had differed as to which officer's gun he was going for (they didn't match between each other).
A body cam supposedly knocked off during the struggle was picked back up but dropped again with someone saying "leave it there"
Another officer can be heard telling another to move his camera, which the family's attorney believed was to try to support their claim that he was going for a gun and so it couldn't catch the interaction and show he did not go for a gun.
For 15 minutes, 3 officers held down 5'4" 140 lbs. McClain as he apologized, vomited, apologized for vomiting and said that he couldn't breath right.
Officer Woodyard applied a carotid control hold which cuts off blood flow to the brain to render McClain unconscious.
One officer threatened that he would have his police dog bite him as he already lay handcuffed and pinned.
An officer tells newly arrived officers that McClain was "acting crazy" and was "definitely on something" and that he attacked them using "incredible, crazy strength"

The death of McClain:

Paramedics injected McClain with 500 mg of ketamine to sedate him though the local protocols only called for 320 - 350 mg for someone McClain's weight.
The injection caused him to stop breathing and was brain dead.
Photos were discovered of officers posing inappropriately and reenacting the carotid control hold taken at the site that he was detained and assaulted.

The coroner

Aurora PD met with the county coroner prior to the coroner making his final decision on cause of death.
Aurora PD investigators were present for the autopsy itself.
The coroner's decision on cause of death was "undetermined"
The coroner opined that his death could have been caused by McClain's own physical assertion comibed with a supposed narrow coronary artery or if he had an asthma attack or choked on his own vomit.
The coroner opined that it wasn't clear if the officer's actions contributed to any of it and that McClain was given a "therapeutic level" of ketamine.
A later coroner report obtained through a lawsuit listed the cause of death now as "complications of ketamine administration following forcible restraint" though officially remains "undetermined" due to that being the reason on the initial report.

The protest organizers:
Protest organizers were charged by AuroraPD ranging from inciting riot to kidnapping.
One organizer, Northam, was arrested with the aid of SWAT and an armored vehicle.
Roberts was arrested while jogging.
Others were arrested at home or at work.
Charges for everyone was eventually dismissed or dropped.

The officers:
After the photo was discovered, one officer resigned and the other three were fired.
Roesenblatt, was fired because he responded "ha ha" to the photos in a text message.
Roedema was found guilty of negligent homicide and assault.
Roesenblatt was acquitted of all charges.
Woodyard was acquitted of all charges and returned to working as a police officer for Aurora PD in November of 2023 and will be receiving $212,546.04 in backpay (backpay from September 2021 until he was reinstated).

The paramedics:
As mentioned in the article, two paramedics were convicted of negligent homicide.

You can just install Arch in a distrobox if you want or a debian + children in a distrobox, install the app and it should launch from your launcher like any other app you use. Distrobox is fantastic.

When I need to install something from the AUR, I just enter my Arch distrobox and do it, same for Ubuntu and stuff.

I forgot to mention that you'll need to use the distrobox-export command to make it so you can launch an app like any other easily from your launcher.

Not really anymore for the ones with built-in batteries like the disposables. Similar to disposibles they are typical 20W or less. You can get many of them for under $30, including the UWELL Caliburn line which is a quality product line. The G Coil packs are between $10 and $20 depending and last a week or more per coil of which there are 5. If you chain them, you're probably looking at between 2 and 3 days per coil.

The mods that require rechargeables like 18650 and other similar form factors sit between $50 and $70 for reputable brands, though for the 200W mods it can be around $100 if you include their branded tanks.

I'd bet your mod is at least a 100W+, probably over 150W depending on when you bought them (they are cheaper now than a few years, which were cheaper than a 10 years before that).

The tanks are pretty cheap now too, even those multi-coil rebuildables. If you don't rebuild your tank and use pre-built coils it is going to be a little more expensive. Those tanks for pre-builts tend to be a bit cheaper as well, like $30 for non-pods. Pod tanks tend to be around $10 - $15.

I remember 80W mods going for between $100 and $300 back in 2011 depending if it was considered a "clone" or not.
