  • The primary system in the US still blows my mind.

There are public, state-sanctioned votes to select candidates for private political groups? That's wild. That gives the impression to the populace that these private organizations are part of the state apparatus itself. It provides an impenetrable legitimacy to those that are already dominant, and makes it so, so much harder for new ones to crop up, because they lack that mantle of legitimacy.

    It's all show, no go.

  • Of course there are. Open sign-ups are open. And really enterprising spammers can spin up their own instances.

Spaces are no inherently bot/spam free. That takes moderation. Report the ever loving shit out of them!

  • The experiment isn't really valid with optgin data, but that doesn't mean there's a need for it. That's entirely contingent on whether the experiment is needed at all, and most of the time these things are about squeezing one last drop of blood out of a dead corpse. And I'd argue that that's not something that's needed.

  • Wow, the number of comments that are just "oh, yeah, these are great, I have one" is... Wow...

No wonder you guys are fucked. Too many of y'all are spending your time supporting shit like this when you could be screaming about single payer, like the rest of the developed world has.

  • Even still, without a consistent experience over a reasonable amount of time, all you're really monitoring is novelty or discombobulation. You're not learning which interface generates more money.

This only makes sense if discombobulation makes the most money.

  • It's a branch of sociology dominated by people who refuse to accept sociological research practices in the name of deluding themselves that they're uncovering grand truths about the universe. It would be hilarious and sad if politicians and journalists didn't listen to them.

  • The first question asked about "global warming", the 2nd uses the phrase "climate change", and a significant percentage of the population -- and particularly Republican voters -- is made up of raging morons and brainwashed suckers.
