  • Plenty of electronics have been able to get IP ratings while still having headphone jacks. It's a trivial part to include as it is practically an ancient bit of tech and doesn't introduce some kind of massive complexity to the device. Repair is a simple swap of the module. Nothing you're saying has anything to do with supporting your claim of its removal leading to greater sustainability or reliability. Its materials are no different from the rest of the phone, meaning it's just as sustainable as the rest of the parts, and it's not a part that's prone to failure, meaning it's just as reliable as the rest.

  • The UK just passed this exact law. They say it's to protect children, but it requires all companies to build a backdoor into their end to end encryption specifically so they can spy on users for "inappropriate material that is harmful to children."

  • Hulu DID start out with ads. When they launched it was an entirely ad supported service. Hulu+ didn't come until years later. After several years of running two tiers of service, free ad supported and paid ad free, they dropped the free tier. Now, years later, we're back to ads with Hulu, but this time you pay for the privilege.

  • The first time I read that book, I became uncertain of my own reality. In the 15 or so years since I first read it, I only read it once more and it was just as unsettling. It's a goddamn masterpiece and I should really work up the strength to read it again.

  • This movie fucked me up and I go through horror and sci-fi films like candy. After it was over, I just sat there, my brain fully blue screened to protect itself from too deeply considering what I watched. Even thinking about it now, years later, it gives me chills. Such a good movie!

  • That show should have been cancelled when they turned it into a nonsense comedy that was like a low budget, unfunny Rick & Morty. An unpopular opinion, I know, but it started off with such potential and turned into a joke.

  • It did get cancelled. Twice. The show ended roughly where the 6th book ended and was intended to complete the last 3 books, but because it was cancelled, we didn't get to see how they would have handled those books without the time jump.
