  • Pretty sure they meant why is this a fresh topic with OP acting like it's happening all over the place. I'm similarly OOTL as I haven't seen any big surge in defed announcements recently. Though I could understand if that was happening in response to the CSAM issues.

  • It's not just about lemm.ee, the up/down of federation is that stuff from lemm.ee gets copied to all the other federated instances and vice versa. So lemm.ee's region aside, this move tries to help protect the fediverse at large by removing a major distribution hub. It's not a full solution in that regard, but it makes a bad situation incrementally less bad. Other popular instances may end up doing this as well till better tools come about.

  • Also a situation where avoiding "New" helps, since no one is up-voting that BS.

  • 100% Discord is for discourse, not announcements/updates.

  • I was able to access it without a login just now.

  • It's the "...being a jerk" part that is, initially, unnecessary. If they aren't informed, there is no intent. If they don't respond well to the initial raw/basic info, that's a different conversation.

  • It actually depends on what tier of Slack license the company uses. Private is a black hole for anything short of Enterprise Grid, unless they reset your password and login as you, obviously doable but not at all subtle.

  • It's about the orientation of the roads, does the road align cleanly with the compass points or does it skew diagonal? So a clean N/S orientation results in a clean N/S line. When you look closely you'll see the results are mirrored across the axis as a result.

  • This is my wife every time we go to the store.

  • Yeah seems like the mastodon account would make a lot of sense as a kind of quick and dirty feed of information, particularly when it comes to stuff that's less "announcement" oriented. Like up down or performance issue statuses and the like.

  • No, the app permissions prompts for those things have been around forever, they aren't remotely new.
