  • I recently went through that dongle buying experience. Having to get the correct DAC and amplifier chipset so the sound won't be too low is annoying. For the record I ended up going with one that has the CX31993 DAC and the MAX97220 amplifier, it doesn't have a real name so I'll just give a link: https://aliexpress.com/item/1005008755907868.html. It is a bit louder than my first impulsive buy, but I haven't tested the microphone yet.

  • This gives me the same vibes as the fucking New York Times annoying me with the popover prompt to use their app every day. The app to read websites on phones already exists, it's called a browser, and I'm using it. Asking a hundred more times won't change my mind.

I even opened a support case which only resulted in them "passing on the suggestion".

  • And .de is also the third most used country code TLD. Only .cn and .tk are bigger. China is just so big and kind of has their own corner of the Internet, so that makes sense, and Tokelau is tiny but they offered free registrations to anyone for a long time.

  • Once again there are choosing the course of action that sabotages their power the most.

If they want to move investors, they have to change the rules once in a consistent way that looks stable, and convince them that an investment will have time to pay off in the new environment. By changing the environment constantly and in contradictory ways they make that impossible.

  • There are two methods:

    • You can use caps lock for the capitalized umlauts and caps lock and shift for the capitalized French accented vowels
    • You can use the accent buttons and combine with a normal capitalized vowel. For example, the button between ü and enter is the two dots button ¨, so you press two dots, then shift-o and get a capital Ö. Same for the French accented vowels the two buttons on the left of backspace have ´ and ` (with alt-gr and shift respectively) and you can combine those with shift-e for É È.

The second method sounds convoluted, but you get used to combining keys anyway. For example for the circumflex ^ because â ê î ô û don't exist pre-combined on this keyboard layout. The same goes for some rarer combinations like ï, which despite the dots isn't a German umlaut, it's an i with trema for use in French for example in haïr, to hate.

German only really introduced capitalized umlauts for printing around 1900, so people used to use the combinations of the vowel with e for capitalized umlauts in print. Then the first mechanical typewriters again didn't all have umlauts, or sometimes had only small umlauts. The combinations with e is also used for systems that have technical limitations. If they are ASCII based for example. Therefore even today people are somewhat used to it, so if you were to write Oeffnungszeit instead of Öffnungszeit nobody would bat an eye.

  • Looks okay to me. Not sure how important the last two are to be honest, but I included them for completeness

The marketing statements on the website say the right things too, but they are secondary to the above, obviously:

    Openness

OpenCloud is and remains open source software. This means that you can download and use the source code free of charge and without obligation. We welcome and encourage any kind of participation in the work on OpenCloud in the spirit of open source collaboration.

OpenCloud GmbH also offers paid builds of OpenCloud for use in environments where support, professional services and other services are required.

    Who are we?

OpenCloud GmbH is a young company founded under the umbrella of the Heinlein Group and employs a team of developers who are familiar with the project code.

The combination of the Heinlein Group's many years of experience in the open source business and the unwavering enthusiasm of the developers, most of whom have many years of open source experience, provides the perfect foundation for an active project. And we warmly invite everyone to join us!

    The foundation

The basis of the project is a fork of a widely used open source project whose components are co-developed by developers from the science organization CERN and other active participants. OpenCloud is now being continuously developed independently by the OpenCloud community and published under the Apache 2.0 and AGPL-3.0 licenses.

In the spirit of reusability of code under free licenses, we are grateful for the strong foundation on which we are building.

  • On Monday he said there wouldn't be a pause. He's always lying. Which means an investor can't trust him.

If there is a tariff this gives the edge in pricing to the manufacturer who produces in the US. If you think the tariff is here to stay it makes economical sense to invest money to move your manufacturing to the US, because then you can get better margins or better market share.

If you do that, and then the tariff is cancelled your competition who can produce more cheaply and reach the same market has the edge again. You just lost the investment, and you might be forced to invest even more to move back.

The more Trump uses tariffs for short term power plays like here the less they will work for long term industry movement, as investors doubts piles up. His ridiculous promises of a new industrial age for the US are only becoming more ridiculous.

  • DHS claimed Monday that "the Biden administration abused the parole authority to allow millions of illegal aliens into the U.S. which further fueled the worst border crisis in U.S. history."

How are they "illegal aliens" (ignoring for the moment the dehumanization inherent to the phrase), if they were officially allowed to enter and then did?

  • Yeah baby, two more months until our next one.

Disposable income is awesome. Don't care for the rum, but: Only the proper name brand snacks and drinks, good pizza, proper blow up mattresses, transportation is easy, people either have cars or can trivially rent some, and our computers are also way better these days.

  • One theory is that Tor was opened to the public by the United States Naval Research Laboratory only to create a crowd of users for their agents to hide in. You need a large enough anonymity set for these sorts of technologies to work.
