  • Something tells me they're going to test this theory lmao

  • Well known grievances? I simply cannot agree with you there. Those are points for which we only have the Russian governments word, and dozens of denials from other governments across the globe.

Not to mention, the reasoning for the war has changed dramatically over and over, from "stop the Nazis!" To "oh they were totally going to join NATO and attack us!!!" To "The security of Europe!" And now "they were gonna get nukes!"

Never mind the fact that the Ukraine already gave up their nukes in exchange for Russia's assurances they wouldn't do exactly this. Or the fact that NATO obviously doesn't need the Ukraine as members since Russia can't even win a land war with a military a fraction of their size right across the border. Or any of the other facts Russia has bald faced lied about repeatedly.

Given the above factors I find it highly unlikely Putin was looking for or interested in any diplomatic out. He was looking for an excuse.

  • Citing Putin's own speech like a valid source is pretty hilarious. Thanks for the giggle.

  • The point of the permanent members of security council was to bring superpowers to the table and keep them there. Otherwise they could play their games and the smaller countries would all suffer for it.

Of course there are still problems, but through the security council and MAD we now have proxy wars and culture wars rather than a World War every couple decades.

  • Why did Russia need guarantees to NOT invade a sovereign nation they had existing "guarantees" to not invade?

  • I mean, Alpha is one of the teams being bought out in the next 2 years if I recall correctly? He might be banking on the new management.

  • THE USA HAS DONE BAD THINGS TOO, MKAY?!

Seriously, I get jumped all over by these losers. They act like we can't detest our own history while trying to improve the future.

  • Rock solid may be a stretch. They still suffer from outrageous metadata bugs even to this day when used in busy file systems.

That bug alone has been open for over a decade. Development focus of the people who understand and want to fix those things have shifted to other filesystems like ext4 and ZFS.

  • And again with the childish belittlements.

The point is that the athletes represent their nationalities in a very real way in international competition like the given one and the also discussed Olympics. To pretend otherwise is wildly disingenuous. You even make this point while deflecting blame onto a third party, then deny it vehemently a few posts later.

Obviously you're not changing your perspective here, and while I'm happy to sympathize with your points and world view, I don't share them. And without an argument in good faith on your part, I'm inclined to move on.

    Have a good day!

  • And from my perspective, you have no interest in arguing in good faith, or engaging in critical thinking on this topic.

It's unfortunate, but neither of us is benefiting from further conversation here.

    I wish you well.

  • You're attacking me instead of my point. Until you address it I have nothing more to say.

  • In the Olympics, do we not say what "country" won the medals, fly their flag, play their anthem? It's not my narrative, but the one the Olympics has written.

  • College (if they go), is when these boys pulled out of their comfort zone and thrown into a huge mixer with a huge variety of new people and ideas. I imagine there's a reason they only see this trend in "high school boys".

  • Far more than it should be.

Why does this matter to the issue at hand? The issue here is with Russia and Ukraine. Why are you mudding the waters with a new topic? USA bad doesn't mean people can't think Russia bad.

  • No one asked me. No double standard here my friend. I call a military industrial complex what it is AND manage to see the Russian genocide of Ukraine for what IT is.

If you've got problems with your opponent tapping a sabre instead of a handshake for the opponent's press to run through the disinformation mill is more then sufficient.

  • This is a shaken hand when someone is representing a country, not a child trying to live their life free. You've built a wonderful strawman.

  • Oh, because someone did something worse, that makes this okay? Grow up, or go tilt at windmills.

    Tu Quoque.

  • Oh I dunno, let's have your country invaded, your children slaughtered in their schools, your women and children raped, your prisoners of war tortured and executed, your monuments and cultural touchstones destroyed, your homes and apartments bombed indiscriminately until several of your cities are completely flattened.

Then let's have you compete with a person who is representing the invaders. Wearing their flag, singing their anthem. And then you're expected to shake their hand?

We'll see if you can't sympathize then.

  • Good human.
