  • It's like that old episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, where Larry finally gets with the dream girl (the one his wife gave him a "free pass" for if he could somehow manage to woo her).. and she invites him into her room... and on her bedside table is a framed photo of Dubya.

  • For software devs, I haven't found sector to chain you nearly as much as the stack. I've been in Microsoft since the beginning of my career (.NET and more recently with Angular) but I've switched sectors from publishing, to insurance, healthcare, supply chain, education.. All of those were in .NET. It probably would've been harder to get a job in the same sector but a different stack (Java or whatever). So... I'm glad I didn't start in COBOL is what I'm saying. :)

  • I really liked Three Body Problem, and I'm happy to see it on the list. The only other one I've tried to read was Seveneves, and.. I couldn't finish it! I just couldn't dig the "realistic" science style (same with The Martian, which I couldn't stand.. and I'm relieved it's not on this list). Don't get me wrong--other Stephenson books are in my personal top 10, especially Anathem. Pattern Recognition is on my shelf and I look forward to it.
